Sales - Invoices Screen Defaults Changed?

Something seems to have changed on the Sales - Invoices screen within the last few months and it's not as efficient and convenient as it was prior to the change. I used to be able to load the Sales - Invoices screen and it would default to the last sort field and timeframe view that I had used previously (ie sorting ascending by Invoice Number, viewing all Unpaid Invoices for the last 12 months).

Now every time I load this screen, it defaults to sorting by Date, only showing the last 3 months. Has anyone else had this issue? And do you know how I can see my preferred set of Invoices by default, in the order that I always want to see them. i.e. get the Sales - Invoices screen to load to the way that I had it sorted and filtered the last time I used it.

If anyone from QuickBooks is monitoring this post, I have already submitted Feedback within the system on this feature, but I am not hopeful that my Feedback will make any difference.

Thank you!

Thanks for getting in touch with the Community, dnmh. I appreciate your detailed information.

QuickBooks regularly gets updated with changes and/or new features. It's likely you're noticing some recent changes from late 2025 or early 2026.

I've reviewed the Invoices screen myself in our test drive account and can confirm a few things to you:

  • I can set the Status to Unpaid, then leave the page, and return. The Status remains set to Unpaid on my end.
  • I can sort by the NO. (invoice number) column to where it's sorted in an ascending (▲) order, leave the page, return to it, and it's still sorted in an ascending order by that same column.
  • I can set the Date drop-down to Last 12 months manually, then when I leave the page and return to it, it reverts to Last 3 months.

Here's an image showing my experience:

What this means is each time you access the Invoices screen, if you want to view invoices for a specific timeframe (like the last 12 months), you'll need to manually specify that in your Date drop-down list.

As far as your sorting the NO. column into ascending order, and specifying a Status of Unpaid, these customizations will be auto-recalled if you leave the page and return to it.

I can certainly understand how an ability for the Invoices screen to auto-recall your specified Date could be useful and have also submitted a suggestion about this myself. It's perfect if you have as well.

Your feedback's definitely valuable to Intuit. It will be reviewed by our Product Development team and considered in future updates. You can stay up-to-date with the latest news for your product by reviewing Intuit's Product Updates page.

You can find additional information about recent updates for QuickBooks on our QuickBooks New Features & Product Updates page.

Please feel welcome to send a reply if there's any additional questions. Have a wonderful Wednesday!

Thanks for the quick reply. I'm wondering though if your sort and filter settings persist even when you log out and log back in? Mine resets upon logout, and automatic logout happens frequently.

And actually, in my system, if I even leave the Invoices page without logging out, I love my filter settings and it resets to 3 months.

Yes, I noticed that also and I don't like it.  My older unpaid invoices do not show and they are the most important ones.  I want the default to be the last 12 months and I want my unpaid invoices to always show first.

I can't find a way to change it.

Hi Suziinkman, I understand that allowing the Invoices screen to default to 12 months and prioritizing unpaid invoices on the list is important. However, the current setting for this feature defaults to displaying only the last 3 months.

While this feature is not yet available, you can submit a request to our Product Engineers for consideration. To send a feature request, please follow the process outlined below.

Go to the Gear icon and select Feedback. Enter your comments or product suggestions. Then click Next to submit feedback.

I also am having this issue and hope it is resolved soon. I submitted request via Feedback under gear icon. This is very inefficient and for a while I did not realize it - ended up some clients are now really late and I have to go back to them which is a bit embarrassing (even tho they are the ones late). Please make the selections for Status and Date retained regardless if you leave the screen or log out.
