Regarding Autopay

Hello, I sent out auto invoices each month, last month my client had setup autopay and i confirmed by seeing that autopay is turned on for the client, My client’s invoice went out this morning 5am on August 30th the invoice is due on September 4th. My question is at what point from the invoice being sent out to the date of the invoice does the autopayment process send the payment?

Autopay processes 3 days before the invoice due date, regardless of when the invoice was sent. Since the due date is September 4th, the payment will process on September 1st.

But if the invoice terms are set to Due on receipt, QBO will process it immediately.

For more details on the Autopayment process and its FAQs, check this article: Set up Autopay for recurring invoices. Scroll down to “Learn when Autopay payments are processed”.

Hello and thank you very much for your reply.

I can confirm that the invoice terms are indeed set to due on receipt.

However, when the invoice went out QuickBooks did not process any payment and it still shows in view activity autopay scheduled.

I also did read the page from the link you sent me and i know it specifically lists the following. So with that being the case why wouldn’t the payment start processing the moment the invoice was sent out?

Learn when Autopay payments are processed

  • 3 days before the invoice due date

  • Immediately if it's less than 3 days. If an invoice is due on receipt

  • As soon as the invoice is created by the recurring template, if the invoice is due on receipt.

Since you've confirmed it's set to due on receipt, was the recurring template edited at all, or was there a prior declined payment on this customer's autopay?

If there's a pattern of changes to the recurring template, it can disrupt autopay. Changes such as the amount, terms, or payment settings can cause this issue.

Also, a declined autopay payment can put it in a waiting state that looks like scheduled, and it won't resolve until your customer updates their payment method.

If there are no changes and your customer has not previously declined autopay, I recommend contacting our Intuit Expert to find out why the autopay payments were not processed.
