Question

Remove View and Pay "link" from printed invoice?

I want to be nice, but whoever thought that is a good idea is not very smart. So now not only do I have to include directions to find the nondescript link to the printable invoice when I send notice via e-mail, I have to include a note on invoices I print and mail explaining that I know you can’t click a “link” on a piece of paper and QuickBooks doesn’t let me remove it.

This used to be possible, but now looks like it cannot be. Is it just me?

You can temporarily remove the View and pay link from your invoices by turning off your online payment options. Here is how to do it:

  1. Open your invoice and click Manage in the top right corner.
  2. Select Payment options.
  3. Uncheck the payment options you want to disable.

You can also deactivate this globally through your Account and settings using the following steps:

  1. Click the Gear icon, then select Account and settings.
  2. Go to the Sales tab and click Invoice payments.
  3. Uncheck the payment options you want to disable, then click Save.

Once you turn off online payments, the View and pay link will disappear from your future invoices. If you ever want to bring it back, just follow these same steps and check the boxes to turn online payments back on.

If you also need to manually track a payment you've received, check out this guide on how to record invoice payments from your customers.

Let me know if you need more guidance.

Funny, because mere days ago it was possible with a simple checkbox.

So you’re saying my only recourse is to terminate my merchant services account with QuickBooks/Intuit and start using someone else? That is certainly doable. But, you’re sure now?

You don't need to cancel your merchant services account. The previous agent's workaround was to disable online payments globally or for individual invoices. If a specific customer doesn't need the payment link on their invoice, you can temporarily turn off this option for that cycle and re-toggle it for clients who do.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm always here to help.

For the stupid amount of money QuickBooks charges, it’s mindboggling that you’ve removed this option to toggle this off.  How many people have wasted time this week trying to figure out how to shut this unauthorized change only to find out we can’t.  Also thanks for the heads up!   Thanks for nothing QuickBooks !

Why don’t I have the option to toggle off “add payment link to PDF”? I’ve now wasted an hour of time trying to get the stupid View and Pay option OFF of my PRINTED invoices. How dumb of an idea.

We appreciate your efforts to remove the payment link on your end. We're removing the Add payment link to PDF toggle, so it automatically matches your invoice settings. If online payments are enabled for an invoice, the payment link will be included. If they are disabled, the link will not appear.

This thread remains open if you have further concerns about managing your invoice.

I literally wasted almost 2 hours trying to figure this out! I always disliked the “view and pay” on the pdf invoice so I had it toggled off.

But now for whatever reason it’s back on and can’t even be removed without turning off the entire online pay.

I have clients that pay me with checks so they print out their invoices and stack them for records. But I also have clients that print out the invoice for records and pay online with a credit card through the email pay option.

Now it’s going to be confusing for my clients that pay online. Can you guys just please fix this back to the way it was? Am I even going to accept a credit card over the phone since I have online pay off? This makes zero sense!

I understand how frustrating it can be to spend so much time troubleshooting this unexpected change, especially when it disrupts your client workflow. At this time, you cannot accept credit card payments when the Payment feature is disabled.

QuickBooks or Merchant Services ties payment links directly to your online processing settings. Thus, you can't completely hide or disable it from the printed/emailed PDF while keeping the online credit card option turned on for other clients.

To avoid confusion for check-paying customers, consider adding a short note to their invoice asking them to disregard the online payment link.

Feel free to return if you have follow-up questions.

This is crazy, it worked fine and you broke it, printed invoices look stupid with the blue box.
