Question

accountant's copy entries not imported and now cannot

Using QB desktop, current version and updates...

monthly:

a copy is sent to the accountant…

a few days later,, the file with changes is available  from web

I click to import… The changes are shown.. I review

I then print the changes,,, I do not attempt to save to PDF :: QB always crashes

i import the changes.. and then...

QB automatically attempts to create PDF  and crashes.

I open the task manager  and end the QB task.

I open QB and check that the changes have been entered.

Been doing that for years.

==========

Last week

QB crashed as usual.   but the changes had not been imported.

Tried to import again…. the web informs me that there is no file available.

The account sends the file again.

Import indicates the file is not correct for this period.

I export a file with last month’s closing date, and try to import.  No joy.

I create an accountant’s copy, and try the import again…..Nope… not correct file.

It appears the crash flagged the import as successful….

The accountant is currently adding the changes to the last accountant’s copy. Will learn more later.

Anticipating it might happen again ===

Anyway to change the import flag in the QB file?

Jesse

Run the Verify/Rebuild Data utility. Any error messages?

QuickBooks often crashes right as it tries to auto-generate a PDF during an import, which can confuse the system, flag the file incorrectly, or block you from trying again. If you are stuck because of a failed import or a missing status, here are the things to check:

First, check that Accountant’s Changes Pending appears at the top of your company file. If it’s missing or the file opened in a newer QuickBooks version, restore a pre-upgrade backup with pending changes. Otherwise, you’ll need to enter updates manually.

If you have the correct file and still can’t import, ensure the .QBY file is saved on your local drive, not a network server or USB. Try the import again.

If the online transfer service fails, have your accountant send the changes file via email, USB, or CD. If importing still fails, run basic data damage troubleshooting. If that doesn’t work, enter updates manually or ask your accountant to create a new changes file from your company file.

To prevent future issues, don’t upgrade files with pending accountant’s changes, as version mismatches block imports. Never remove the accountant’s copy restriction without consulting your accountant, since this permanently disables importing changes.
