Currently, the option to customize purchase order (PO) isn't an option in QuickBooks Online Accountant (QBOA), @Muz123. I'm here to share further details about this.

You can only customize transaction forms such as invoices, sales receipts, and estimates on the online version of QuickBooks. The description in your PO is associated with the category or product/service you've entered. Then, your email address is indicated in the said form for your company details. Since you're unable to customize PO, while you create one, you can temporarily remove the description of the category or product/service and your email in the company profile as an alternative.

To temporarily remove the description of the product/service, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Products and services.
  3. Choose the product/service, then select Edit under the Action column.
  4. Go to the Description field, then delete its content.
  5. Click Save and close.

For the category, you can go to the Gear icon, then select Chart of Accounts. Locate and choose the expense account you want to edit to open its details. From there, you can delete its description.

While with your email address, you can temporarily remove it from your company details. Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Select Company settings.
  3. In the Company menu, click anywhere in the Contact info section to open its content.
  4. Go to the Company email section, then remove your email.
  5. Click Save.

Once done, you can create the PO. Rest assured that your email and the description of either the category or product/service won't appear on the form.

In the meantime, you can check out our blog for the latest happenings, feature developments, and product updates: The QuickBooks Blog. It also includes the link for our resource center where you can find tips on how to effectively manage your business.

Please let me know if you have other concerns. I'm just around to help. Take care always.

Are you a bot answering my questions?

I want to hide my description and email address on my purchase order.

You are saying to go to setting and delete description. I want to remove description column from my print option like we can hide in Sales. Give me the exact solution for this please..

Hello @Muz123,

I appreciate you for getting back to us here in the Community. Let me chime in and provide clarification about the response above.

The QuickBooks Team answering questions here in the Community forum are live support users. To hide some information, I recommend customizing the Master template from the Custom form styles section.

Here's how:

  1. Click the Gear icon in the upper-right corner.
  2. Select Custom form styles.
  3. Search for the Standard (Master) template.
  4. Press Edit
  5. Go to the Content tab.
  6. Click the pencil icon in the upper-right corner.
  7. Under Header, uncheck the boxes to remove your information.
  8. Below Columns, uncheck the Description box.
  9. Hit Done.

Once done, please proceed with printing the purchase order to view the results. The changes should reflect after saving the template.

For more information, as well as how to run a purchase order report, I recommend the following article: Create purchase orders in QuickBooks Online.

Drop me a comment below if you have any other questions. I'll be happy to help you some more.

this thread is 3+ years old and QBO still does not allow for much customization of the PO format that gets sent to customers. This is ridiculous since QB desktop gave all of this flexibility...and then some. I don't want the "Product/Service" to show on the PO since it is unique to my bookkeeping. I just want the Description to show. When will there be a toggle on/off for these descriptor similar to the fields for the customized invoices?

Not a big fan of QBO so far...

We appreciate you for requesting some updates about the option to customize purchase orders, Charlie.

Having the feature to allow editing the format of your POs is a great idea to have in QuickBooks Online (QBO). However, as of the right moment, this option is unavailable. We can only customize transaction forms such as invoices, sales receipts, and estimates in QBO. Our developers are always working on development roadmaps that will be helpful for the majority of our clients.

We see consumer feedback as an opportunity to improve the numerous features of our products. With that said, I'd recommend giving our engineers direct feedback to look into this suggestion and incorporate it into future updates. Let me guide you on how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon.
  2. Click Feedback.
  3. Type in your recommendation in the Share your feedback field.
  4. Tap Next.
  5. Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the process.

I've attached screenshots below for your reference:

Furthermore, you can visit this page to stay up to date on the latest software improvements and enhancements with QBO: Customer Feedback for QuickBooks Online. You'll want to check for a third-party application that can help you with hiding the Product/Service in the PO since it is unique to your bookkeeping. Check out this link for a list of QuickBooks-compatible apps: https://quickbooks.intuit.com/app/apps/home/. We can also do it in QBO by following the steps below:

  1. Go to Apps on the left side menu.
  2. Search for the app in the Find apps to streamline your work field.
  3. Look for an app that supports customizing purchase orders on your business needs.

Any questions about integrating the app into your Online account should be directed to the app's third-party provider. Keep posted with new updates in QuickBooks Online to check if the option to customize POs is out:

You're more than welcome to drop by if you have questions about managing your PO entries. Do you need to run some reports for the next current period? Or would you like to take care of taxes in QuickBooks? Let me know and I'll lend a hand again.

Why are you continuing to provide the same response of "submit feedback" when it has been YEARS since this ACUTE DEFICIENCY has been raised?  We have provided feedback.  Maybe start telling the truth, which is that Intuit Does Not Want To Change This.  You can also tell the truth by telling these frustrated people that QuickBooks Desktop DOES have this functionality and then some, but instead you are continuing to advertise and market a product with "what's new / etc" to an audience that is still waiting for BASIC FUNCTIONALITY.  Stop.  This.  Farce.
