Question

I am having an issues with the reconcile workspace

Our small organization is going back in time to do some necessary cleanup.  As I am attempting to reconcile our bank checking account, I am finding that some checking account transactions are not present on the reconcile workspace, however those missing transactions are listed in the account register and journal postings.  I assume that the transaction were imported directly from the bank, but I am not the one who entered those transactions.  Per the account register, the transaction missing from the reconcile workspace are categorized as deposit, transfer, expense and journal.  Can anyone provide any insight as to while posted transaction would be missing from the reconcile  workspace and how to fix it?

@robertmartin1961 likely those transactions are already reconciled. On the account register, do you see an R tag under the Check box column? If that’s the case, then they have been reconciled already.

If you're sure these transactions should not be reconciled during a specific statement period, click on the R tag until the box turns blank to unreconcile them.

Alternatively, use the batch unreconcile option for QBO Accountant if you use it.

Missing transactions during a historical cleanup typically occur for two reasons. The entries were accidentally marked with an R (reconciled) status, or their dates fall outside your statement period. To pinpoint the exact cause, I suggest checking the Reconciliation Reports and Audit Log first.

If those transactions were already reconciled, it's normal that they don't appear in the reconciliation page. However, if those transactions haven't been reconciled and were mistakenly marked as R, follow these steps to make them reappear:

  1. From the Gear icon, choose Chart of Accounts.
  2. Find your checking account and select View Register.
  3. Locate the affected transaction
  4. Click the checkmark column until it is blank (removing the "R")
  5. Select Save

Otherwise, their dates likely fall after your statement ending date. To fix this, make sure your statement ending date covers those dates, or verify in the register that they were posted to the correct account.
