Link suddenly missing in categorization history!

There was a link in the categorization history that provided access to historical detail.  I used it Friday and as of Tuesday it's missing.  I was told that there was an upgrade?  That link saved me so much time and provided for consistency for categorization.  Does anyone know anything about this?  Has anyone noticed it's missing?  I used it all the time...  I don't even know any workarounds other than manual look ups that will take forever.  See the screenshot attached where it used to be.

I appreciate you for laying out the details of your concern and for attaching a screenshot, @barbara grobicki.

I'll share some insights on how we can get around this issue so you can manage your transactions seamlessly. I recommend logging out and logging back in to your QuickBooks Online (QBO) to refresh it.

If the issue persists, I suggest accessing your account via a private or incognito window. This allows us to determine whether the problem is due to browser caching.

When the browser is full of cache data, it can hinder the views and performance of your account. Using a private window helps us verify the issue as this doesn't store any cache files.

To access a private window, you can refer to these keyboard shortcuts:

  • Ctrl + Shift + N (Google Chrome browser)
  • Ctrl + Shift + P (Mozilla Firefox & Microsoft Edge browsers)
  • Command + Shift + N (Safari browser)

If you’re able to see the link, I’d suggest clearing your regular browser's cache to refresh and optimize your browser. If the issue remains, I recommend using other supported browsers. This way, we can check if this is a browser-specific issue.

Once you're ready, you might want to utilize this article that can help you efficiently match your accounts: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

If you have any other concerns or questions about categorizing your transactions, please feel free to tag me in your reply. Our doors are always open to help you. Have a great day!

Hi Jason, Thank!  Couple of notes:  I already tried loggin out and in, and I also already tried the Incognito window.  Neither of those worked.  I had not tried a different browser.  I had been using Chrome so tried using MicroSoft Edge - which is a fresh browser as I never use it normally.  Still no dice.  The link is gone.  The person at the Help Desk when I called said this must have been deleted during a QuickBooks Online update that occurred early this week?  I just am shocked that such a useful link would be deleted.  The article doesn't help as this is issue about quickly matching the account AND memo information that has been used in the past (especially if one vendor has charges that go to several accounts).  The memo information is critical as I have to prepare reports for our board of directors - so it needs to match each month for recurring charges.  It was super easy just to access that, confirm and copy that information.  Now I guess I will have to open another window and search for that previous charge?  That would take me forever for these recurring charges.

It must be frustrating when there's an option you usually use that no longer works, @barbara grobicki. But don't worry I know other ways how to see the transactions assigned to a specific category.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), you can use reports to perform this task. To start, let's pull up the Transaction Detail by Account report. Please refer to these steps:

  1. In your QBO account, click the Reports menu located on the left pane.
  2. Next, scroll down to the For my accountant section.
  3. From there, look for the Transaction Detail by Account report and click it.
  4. Once opened, select the Customize button so you can set the correct date range and filter the data.
  5. Go to the Filter section and check the box for Distribution account.
  6. Then, choose the specific account or category where the transactions are allocated.
  7. When finished, select the Run report button.

For an additional guide in categorizing your transactions, here's the article that you can access: Categorize and match online bank transactions in QuickBooks Online.

Also, since the disappearance of the link happens after the software update, I recommend sending product feedback to our developers. This is a great way to let them know your insights and suggestions to improve the program's features. Here's how:

  1. Select the Gear icon located in the upper right part of your QBO page.
  2. Then, choose Feedback under the Profile column.
  3. The feedback box will appear. From there, enter your comments about the product.
  4. Once done, select Next to submit.

After that, you can visit our QuickBooks Online Feature Requests website to get updates about your submitted feedback.

It's recommended to perform the reconciliation process regularly. This method ensures that the balance of your account and real-life bank statement is matched.

If you have any other questions about the process I've outlined above, please leave a reply below. I want to make sure your queries and QBO concerns will be taken care of. Thanks for posting here. Have a good day.
