Question

Staff Accountant

I use QuickBooks 2015 Accountant Desktop to manage five company files. The administrator left without providing the admin password, so I have continued maintaining the accounting records using a former employee’s username and password. These credentials have worked for the five years I have been with the company. Suddenly, the last company file rejects the password with a “Password not matching” message, while the other four remain accessible. Can you help me regain access and explain what might have caused this? Could the affected company file have been hacked?

To regain access to your company file, use the Automated Password Reset Tool. This issue is caused by data corruption or a recent password change rather than a security breach or hacking.

Here's how you can proceed:

  1. Download the QuickBooks Desktop Automated Password Reset Tool.
  2. Enter your license information and follow the prompts to create a new password for the affected company file.

For detailed steps and guidance, check this article: Use the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop.

If the password reset tool doesn't work, restore your latest backup from before the error started occurring so you can bypass the corrupted login block.

If the issue persists, I recommend contacting our Intuit Expert Team. They possess the essential tools to help you access the company file.

@Walter Consider resetting the Admin password as a permanent solution. You may contact @Fiat Lux_ASIA  as a last resort to purchase their service for resetting your password.
