Question

Why is it not possible to split an expense or a bill across locations?

I have clients that receive invoices that are for both shops, so I need to split them between locations, but I can't easily. Seems a simple oversight to not be able to do this?

Location tracking in QuickBooks Online is limited to one location per entire transaction, it can’t be used to split a single bill across multiple shops. The only way to achieve this is by turning on Track classes at the line-item level instead. Please note that this feature is only available to QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced plans.

If you're on QuickBooks Online Essentials or below, you can create separate bill entries for each shop. Then, manually split the original invoice amount and enter a separate bill per location to keep your records accurate.
