Question

QB Invoicing not working!

Every time I generate an invoice and have all the relevant boxes applied for some reason as soon as I hit save the amount on the invoice changes to a smaller figure for no reason (usually the value of VAT). Yes I have VAT applied on the drop downs. I now can’t invoice because of this issue.

The VAT calculation depends on whether you choose Inclusive of Tax or Exclusive of Tax. Based on your description, you are using the Inclusive of Tax, which is why the invoice total appears smaller after saving.

When an invoice is set to Inclusive of Tax, the price you entered already includes VAT. Because of this, the system automatically calculates backward to separate the base price from the tax portion, which lowers the total item amount.

If you want the entered amount to match the base price instead, you can increase the item price by the VAT percentage to offset the calculation when using the Inclusive of Tax option.

I’ll keep this thread open in case you have any details to share or follow-up questions.

I had a similar problem. I found when I checked the chart of accounts, the account I was using didn’t have GST in the relevant column. Perhaps yours has VAT missing. This was a recent thing for me and I don’t

know how it changed because I use that account all the time. Most peculiar, but its fixed now.
