We've made downloading, installing, and activating ProFile a simple and intuitive process; below you"ll find all the information needed to get started.
Downloading ProFile
ProFile users need to download a file named "gpsetup.exe" to the computer. The file “gpsetup.exe” is the executable file that installs ProFile on a computer.
Different web browsers download and store the file in different ways. Choose the option below that reflects the web browser you are using.
If using Internet Explorer
1. Navigate to the ProFile download page.
2. Click the orange "Download ProFile" button on the download page.
A prompt asks if you want to run or save the file:
3. Select the “Save” option.
The download progress window displays:
When completed, the location of the file is C:/Windows -> Users -> [USER NAME] -> Downloads
You can now proceed to the "Installing ProFile" section below.
If using Google Chrome
1. Navigate to the ProFile download page.
2. Click the orange "Download ProFile" button on the download page.
The download displays automatically in the bottom-right corner of the browser:
When completed, the location of the file is C:/Windows -> Users -> [USER NAME] -> Downloads
You can now proceed to the "Installing ProFile" section below.
Note: if you are still unsure of where the file has been stored, search the C: drive for the file "gpsetup.exe".
Installing ProFile
1. Locate the file "gpsetup.exe", as described above:
2. Right-click on the file "gpsetup.exe" and select the "Run as Administrator" option.
The ProFile InstallShield Wizard displays.
3. Select your installation language preference:
4. Click the "OK" button.
The ProFile "License Agreement" displays.
5. Review the material and click the "Yes" button to proceed:
6. Select the location to store ProFile files; the InstallShield Wizard makes a suggestion, or click the "Change" button to select a new or different location:
7. Click the "Next" button; the installation is now ready to begin.
8. Click the "Install" button.
The installation of files begins; the installation is tracked by the progress bar:
When installation is completed, ProFile then registers the necessary components:
9. Click the "Finish" button when installation is complete.
The ProFile icon is displayed on the desktop:
Acquiring ProFile Product Code and License Key Information
After the purchase of ProFile, users will receive a receipt via email that contains a "Product Code" and "License Key". This information is necessary for the activation of ProFile.
If ProFile was purchased through the ProFile online store, the information is found at the bottom of the receipt:
If ProFile was purchased through the telephone service, the information is found in the "Order Details" section of the receipt:
Activating a ProFile License

1. Launch ProFile from the desktop icon that has been installed, or under the "Start" -> "All Programs" menu in Windows:
ProFile launches; the ProFile license window displays:
2. Enter the product code and license key information; click the "Activate" button.
A green check mark displays, indicating that the product has been activated and is ready to use:
3. Click the "I'm Done" button to begin using ProFile.
4. If ProFile's "Flexible Licensing" function is required, click the "Next - Set Up Flexible Licensing" button.

5. If more than one license is to be added, review the section "Adding Additional Licenses" below.
Adding Additional Licenses
1. If more than one license is to be entered, click on the "+ Add another license" button following the entering of the product code and license key:
2. A new field displays; enter the additional product code and license key information:
3. Click the "Activate" button to activate the additional license.
4. Click the "Finish" button.
The addition of licenses is complete.
Troubleshooting License Issues
Only the latest tax year license is required in the product. It gives access to prior year tax returns for that module:
If you have insufficient space below existing licenses to activate a new license, delete an existing license from a prior year by pressing Help-> Manage license-> Details in ProFile. Select the older license(s) to remove, then press "Add new license to enter the latest license.”
An error message displays if a product code or license key are invalid or incorrectly added:
- all information was entered correctly
- the ProFile version being used is in the most recent
