After a long call to the Intuit Help Desk yesterday (and they were very helpful) I now have the correct VAT Return ready to file. However, I am getting an authentication error when trying to file the VAT Return with HMRC. The credentials I'm using are correct (username/password) as I am able to log in directly to HMRC.
What can be the cause of this?
Thank you, Sarah

Hi Sarah1612,
Do you know the level of user access you have on the account? Its may be a user permissions restriction meaning you have access to view the returns but are unable to submit. Please have the main admin of the account try to submit the return or update your user type.
Thanks
Hi Sarah,
I'm pleased our Help Desk were able to support you with the VAT return. Can I confirm if you have registered for Making Tax Digital with HMRC and if so have you enabled this within QuickBooks on the Taxes page?
Thanks
Hello - yes I've registered for MTD and I'm using Quickbooks Desktop Pro which doesn't have a Taxes menu.
Hi there, @Sarah1612.
Thanks for your swift response and for confirming your registration with Making Tax Digital (MTD). Let me chime in to a few insights about filing VAT return using the MTD with HMRC.
After you registered for MTD, you should receive a confirmation email from HMRC within 72 hours of signing up. Submission of VAT Return won't be available until you receive the confirmation email.
Once you received the confirmation email from HRMC, you can turn on Making Tax Digital submissions in QuickBooks. Here's how:
You will then be redirected to HMRC to authorise QuickBooks to interact with HMRC using your MTD gateway details. after you complete this process, you'll be returned to the Taxes page and will see the Making Tax Digital (MTD) badge.
I'd be glad to know how it goes for you, @Sarah1612. We're always right here to attend your needs. Have a pleasant day ahead.
