QB Desktop

Hi, as we all know QB Desktop is coming to an end on the 31 Jan 23, I spoke to someone at QB yesterday who informed me that after 31 Jan 23 we will no longer be able to access our QB Desktop as they will withdraw the licence.

I have a very big issue with this because our QB Desktop has all our history from the start of the company and I really don't want to lose it, also by Law we have to keep our Accounting records for a minimum of 6 years so how can QB justify their actions.

I have tried the QB Online and uploaded all our information from Desktop to Online as a trial and quite frankly Desktop is far superior to Online, also all our clients that we have made inactive in Desktop were now all active in Online and I couldn't make them inactive.

Does anyone know if there is any way that we can access Desktop after 31 Jan 23

Kind regards

Mario

Is your company located in the UK and must comply with MTD regulations?

Hi Fiat Lux, yes we are located in the UK and must comply with MTD regulations, but my issue is that after 31 Jan 23 I will not be able to open my Desktop accounts which contains all our history.

You can purchase a one-time license for QB Desktop 2020 to open any archive files created in QB Desktop 2020 or earlier versions. Then you can consider converting the remaining data up to now to QB Online or another accounting app.

We are using QB Desktop Pro 2021 and for a few years now QB UK have had us all on a subscription basis, we can't buy licenses. I do have Pro 2016 version on CD but it won't allow me to open on an older version.

Have you ever used a version older than QB Desktop 2021 (e.g. 2020)? Not QB Desktop 2016. If the answer is yes, you may still have backup files created on that version. Otherwise, you have no other choice but to convert the entire data completely. You may need to purchase a third-party service to remove unused lists before converting it to QB Online.

Hello MarioND1,

Welcome to the Community page,

So currently there will be no way to be able to access desktop after the end of January 2023, You would need to export ALL data, everything out of the desktop before the end of January 2023 so you still have the information if you need it in the future.

We have asked if there will be an option for it but there is no update on this

Unfortunately since 2019 QB forced us all to go onto subscription, thanks for your help.

Hi Ashleigh, the whole attitude of QB UK to be honest with you stinks, you are forcing us to go online to a program that is worse then Desktop and now on top of that you are going to close us off completely to Desktop, you say I have to export ALL date but our only option is QB Online, Xero or Sage that is compatible with QB upload data.

If I don't like any of those programs what am I suppose to do and if HMRC come calling and requesting the data are you guys going to pay the £3,000 fine or are your directors willing to be struck off.

The Law is the Law and you guys need to sort this out so that we are able to access Desktop data after 21 Jan 23

Hi MarioND1, we appreciate what you are saying, and take it all on board and will pass it on. Soon as we get an update to whether there will be an option to still access your data after the end of January we will let you know.
