It's quick and easy to edit and delete the bank rules in QuickBooks Self-Employed. From the Gear icon, select Rules. Find the rule you want to modify and click Edit. Next to it is a drop-down where you can select Delete.

This needs to be updated. I'm in quickbooks right now and "Rules" is not found under the gear icon. It is now found going into Banking, then finding it on the "Rules" tag.

Thanks for sharing your pointers. I would like to clarify some things about accessing the rules in QuickBooks. 

 

Accessing your rules can still be found on the Gear menu under Tools, then Create rules

Though, another way to access them is to go to the Transactions menu, clicking on the arrow icon beside Add transaction, then selecting Manage rules.

However, are you using QuickBooks Online instead? Then you're correct about locating the rules in this version. They can only be accessed on the Banking page on the Rules tab. 

 

I'm sure you'll have other things to take care of in QuickBooks. If you need help reconciling your account in the Online version, you can check out this article: Reconcile an account in QuickBooks Online.

This is not correct. There is no Rules link under the Gear icon.

And contrary to other instructions I have found, there is no link to Rules under the Banking link.

There is a Rules link under the Bookkeeping link, and it seems to be the only way to get to the Rules link.

I wish QB would delete or clear out incorrect "help".

Yes, banking rules can be found in the Bookkeeping section for newly created accounts in QuickBooks Online via the Business View display. And banking rules are also located in the Banking menu once the customer accesses them using the Accountant View display.

Is there away to change multiple rules at once for example I want them to check all accounts not just the one that the auto rule created

As of this moment, marking all accounts to the multiple rules created is not possible.  I understand how the workflow you're looking for is beneficial to your business.

Welcome to the Community, @TI2BSLet's get that question answered.

 

Creating rules in QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) will help you categorize past and recent transactions automatically.

 

When you delete a rule in QBSE, it will not affect any previous transactions. If you want to delete rules, you can click the dropdown arrow beside Edit. See this article for details: Create rules to speed up reviews in QuickBooks Self-Employed.

My QuickBooks does not have that option . Only says edit or make it inactive.

There are several reasons why you can't delete the Price Rules feature. Before we go further, could you let me know which specific subscription you have? Did you create the price rules using bank rules or through the specific Price Rules feature in QuickBooks Online (QBO)?

 

If you're using QuickBooks Self-Employed, it's simple to edit and delete bank rules. Click on the Gear icon, select Rules, find the rule you want to delete, click the drop-down option next to it, and choose Delete.

However, if you're looking to delete a bank rule in QuickBooks Online, you can follow these steps:

 

  1. At the gear icon select Transactions from the sidebar menu and click Bank Transactions.
  2. Go to the Rules tab, then find the rule you want to remove.
  3. Under the Actions column, click the drop-down arrow beside Edit
  4. Select Delete, then choose Yes to confirm the action.

If you're still unable to see the option to delete, try clearing your cache and cookies for your browser or use another supported browser. Possible that your current browser may have a temporary issue with QuickBooks. 

 

Additionally, if you are referring to the QBO Price Rules feature this is available only in the QuickBooks Online Plus and Advanced subscriptions. This feature enables you to set special pricing for specific customers or apply discounts during promotions. You'll need either the Plus or Advanced subscription to access and use Price Rules.

 

If you have one of these subscriptions, the option to delete price rules in QBO is unavailable; however, you can inactive them. Making price rules inactive stops any automatic pricing adjustments, meaning customers who previously received special pricing will now pay standard prices. This change can impact sales and promotions, potentially reducing sales volume if discounts were a significant draw.
