Hi,
We found a replicable issue when introducing QB 2022 (Premiere/Accountant) to our enviroment. As soon as we install Quickbooks 2022 DB service to our file servers (Windows Server 2016 - which is hosting QB files from 2016 up to 2021), multi-user mode stopped for all previous versions with the error code H202. Everything works again as soon as QB 2022 hosting is removed with no additional changes made. The same issue exists in multiple file servers, even with the new setup. Please help!!!
Thanks for checking in with us, ryannguyen.
We currently have an ongoing issue with multi-user errors after upgrading to QuickBooks Desktop 2022. This is caused by the missing Database Server Manager. Rest assured, our product engineers are working together on a permanent fix on this issue.
While we're still fixing this issue, we can try uninstalling the version installed on the server computer as a workaround. If the QuickBooks Server Manager version 2022 is nowhere to be found after uninstalling the prior version, just perform a manual clean install on QuickBooks 2022 to fix it.

If your QuickbooksDB32 service is running and QBCFMonitor service is running, but Multi User-mode does not work, Uninstalling the 2022 DBM from control panel and deleting the QuickBooksDM32service, restarting the DB31 service fixes the issue for now.
I noticed that the 2022 Data base manager installs by default into the windows directory C: Program Files directory V's all other versions install into the Program Files(x86).
Tonight I will attempt to install the 2022 database manager into the Program files(x86) Directory and see if that fixes the DBM32.
Is there a fix to this yet?
Is there a resolution for this yet?
Thanks for joining this thread, @Leahkershner1103.
To resolve the said issue about the multi-user errors, let's ensure to update the product to its latest release. The program will work with multi-user if you're using QuickBooks Desktop 2022 R3.
If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our support team to check your account further.
Here's how you can reach them:

So why does multi-user only work for 2022 program and not any previous versions of QuickBooks desktop?
I have tested this 9 ways to Friday now listen to your "Tech Support" breath in my ear with no answers on Multiple phone calls never being told that ONLY the 2022 version will work with the 2022 Data base manager.
The first glaring issue I see is that if you attempt to only install the 2022 data base manager DB32, it installs in 32bit even though its a 64 bit installer and It doesn't work at all for any version year.
Second, The new 2022 software is also 64 bit version where all previous versions were 32 bit.
In order to get the 64 bit Data base manager you have to install the whole GD program along with the data base manager in order to install the 64 bit Quick Books data base manager DB32 (64-bit).
After this the only version year that works to go into multi user mode is 2022. No previous versions will go into Multi user mode when the 64-bit DB32 Data base manager is installed.
This is absurd for CPA's trying to manage way more than one or two file from a file server. Useless space wasted on expensive server drives where the program will never be run. Its an OS drive for services and utilities...
You all keep labeling these questions as solved but they are not.
What are the technicians doing to provide an option to the 64 Bit problem? Nothing? Tough luck? sorry you paid so much for so little? Actually its more like take what we give you and like it.
What I am hearing from Intuit / QuickBooks is old software is no longer supported if you want to do anything with purpose in the 2022 version. Other wise best option is to encourage everyone to not update or upgrade to 2022 versions of your software so they can maintain full operational capability of version years 2021, 2020 and 2019 until 2019 is no longer supported in May 2022.
We also have constant problems with file sharing between the server and the workstation in multi-user in 2022. It works one day and not the next. Freezes constantly, requiring reboot. We do have Desktop Pro Plus 2022 version R3P.
The error just says the workstation can't connect with the server because it doesn't have permission. Although the error message is not always the same.
We have been on with tech support over and over for upwards of 4 hours at a time since we upgraded to 2022 in Nov 2021. It works for a day or two then won't let us in again.
Any help would be great!!!
Did you ever get any sort of resolution on this issue? I am having a similar issue? Thank you.
I want to fix this from happening to you, @John_K.
Let's fix your multi-user issue in QuickBooks Desktop by doing some troubleshooting steps. This way, you can get back where you left off.
Have you tried updating, uninstalling, and reinstalling the product as suggested by my colleagues above? If you have not yet done so, I urge you to do so. Ensure your QuickBooks Desktop version is 2022 R3 for the multi-user to work perfectly. To check the version, press F2 on your account homepage.
If the issue persists after following the above solution, I recommend following the steps in this article regarding error code H202: How to fix Error H202 and H505.
Additionally, I've added this article that'll help you learn about the tasks that can be performed in single or multi-user mode: Features Available and Task you can Do With a Single or More Than One License.
Fill me in if you have additional questions about multi-user mode issues. I'm always here to help you. Keep safe, John.
Michelle -- I think the issue is occurring for me and others when there are multiple versions of QB installed -- which has always worked in the past. I tried re-install QB this AM, and then run the updates, but that did not seem to make a difference.
What is odd is that it does not show the QB DB manager for 2022 is even running (like it does for the other releases).
I have tried the Tools Hub and all that, and called Support -- and their "maybe" solution was to uninstall all the existing version of QB on the machine and re-install. And that just doesn't seem like a solution to me.
Do a search for INV-63789 and you will see there are others that have a similar issue -- but no FIX that I can find has been posted.
I am pretty sure something is broken and Intuit needs to get their Engineering Team involved.
This is really starting to take up a lot of time.
Its more than a firewall permission or a toggle of the hosting multiuser access.
Does anyone in this discussion have all the last 4 years from 2022 to 2019, any version of QB, with a Database manager for all 4 years working correctly allowing Multiuser mode access for all years not just one?
For reference, yes, I was using R3 during my testing.
Here is what I have experienced, and I ask you these questions:
Does anyone in this discussion have Windows server running the last 3 versions, any versions of 2021 to 2019, with Data base mangers working fine meaning multi users mode works? As for me Yes, I do. Multiuser mode has worked perfect for years now from versions 2014 to 2021.
Did Anyone add 2022 DBM version the way you have added all previous versions of Data base manager to that same server by selecting the option I will not be using QuickBooks on this computer; but I'll be storing our company file on it so the file can be shared over our network.? I did, it installed a 32-bit version of the DBM. Multiuser mode stopped working for all years installed. 2022 to 2019.
Did anyone install the entire software package plus the Database manager onto the server where previous versions of Database managers are installed using the installation option, I'll be using QuickBooks on this computer and storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network. ? I did and it installed a 64-bit version of the Database manager. Windows Service: QuickBooksDB32. Multiuser mode only worked for version 2022. All previous versions 2021 to 2019 multiuser mode stopped working.
My testing shows there is an issue with the windows database manager. The manager is only capable of working in either 32- or 64-bit mode. since all previous DBM's are 32bit, and the new software and the DBM are 64 bit this ends with users being able to ONLY access 2022 versions in Multiuser-mode. Also I will add Yes you can get a 32 bit only version of the 2022DBM, but it doesn’t work. No years will go into Multiuser Mode.
If you follow the recommended installation procedure of installing all the 2022 software and the database manager with QuickBooks installation option: I'll be using QuickBooks on this computer and storing our company file here so it can be shared over our network, You will be able to get 2022 versions into Multiuser mode because this will install the 64Bit version of the DBM.
If you are ONLY trying to get 2022 version to work in Multiuser mode in a stable environment the answer seems simple to me, After you properly install as mentioned above, Uninstall all previous versions of the Quick Books Database managers. Those services are named based on QuickbooksDBxx. The 2022 version of the Database manager is QuickbooksDB32. All previous versions will be less than 32. 31 for 2021, 30 for 2020, and 29 for 2019. In the windows control panel go to uninstall a program and remove and remove QuickBooks Enterprise Server XX. They are listed by version year. You have to use CMD line to remove the services left behind, or just disable the services on the server so they don’t try and start. Make sure to not remove the 2022 service called QuickBooksDB32. You need that one.
AS a CPA firm we need all available versions because we never know what our clients use so I still don’t see a fix for that.
So QuickBooks, What the word on how to get all supported versions 2022 to 2020 working?
It's still broken. I was told that I would be added to the notification of an escalated internal ticket but have not heard from anyone since then. Hopefully, this could bring to their attention and hopefully fix this.
@Kershinator, we are on the same boat. I even set up a new server with nothing else but DB Managers from 2019 - 2022. As soon as 2022 (R3) is installed, everything else breaks. BTW, we have been hosting multiple versions of QBs dating back to 2016 without this issue.
Yeah it nuts.
I am the IT guy and I spend more time in the past 2 years dealing with dumb issues like this from all software manufactures we use.
One thing I tried was changing the install directory for 2022 when you install only the DBM. It would install the32-bit DBM in the 64 bit windows directory.
I changed the install location to the 32-bit directory and it made no difference. No years would go into M/U mode.
Not sure if I needed to make a registry change with that or not. I don't do a lot in registry.
I am an IT Consultant also -- and have a lot of clients who use QB -- all flavors. So I am pretty familiar with it. The worst part is that Intuit Support said the issue was solved! How ????
All pretty frustrating!
The only way it is solved is if you only use 2022 and install the 64-bit Data base manager. If you install the software along with the Database manager, it will install the 64-bit 2022 dbm. I was able to successfully change a file to multi user on only 2022 software when I installed as mentioned above but no previous years would go into multi user mode with the 64-bit database manager.
I speculate this is because all previous data base managers are 32-bit only.
I even went to the Qb page to download the installers and checked to see if there was a 32-bit installer or not for the 2022 versions, there is not.
I then went to older years to see if there was a 64-bit installer for older years. there is not.
If you install only the database manager using the R3 installer package, it installs a 32-bit Database manager for the 2022 version, but it installs it into the windows 64-bit folder directory and it doesn't work for any years to allow them into multi user mode.
The only way I have found to get the 64-bit Database manager for the 2022 versions is to fully install the software with DBM.
To be clear I have removed the 2022 64-bit dbm and software from my server and I am just using the previous version to maintain M/U access to the previous version for 2019 to 2021 and told all our staff to stay clear of 2022 versions all together and to discourage clients from purchasing 2022 any version at this point and to stick with 2020 & 2021 versions.
@John_K, lol, I reported this issue after R3 was released and somehow R3 solves it. Gotta love it. The worst part is I don't think Quickbooks is taken this seriously since I was brushed off and nothing has changed since December 01, 2021.
@Kershinator, We had to remove the 2022 DB manager to keep everything working and tells everyone to steer clear of 2022 as well.
@MichelleBh, @Rubielyn_J, Could you please help because 2022 is useless at this point and we would love to get it working.
Unfortunately, I think calling and telling them to downgrade 2022 licenses to 2021 versions is going to have to become the norm because they are telling us nothing.
Any client that comes to us with 2022 version issues, that's our suggestion to them until they give some updates on whats wrong and a time frame to fix it.
@Kershinator and @John_K, do you have any updates from QB Support? Any resolutions or promises to fix?
Nope....Just some real Silicon valley crap over here....
Any update or fix on this?
Thanks for joining this thread, @jadem. Let me provide additional information to fix multi-user issues.
We had to uninstall the prior version installed on the server computer. If the QuickBooks version 2022 is nowhere to be found after uninstalling the prior version, perform a manual clean install on QB 2022 to fix it.
Let's make sure everything is installed and set up properly. If needed we may need to reinstall some components. Aside from that, ensure to use QuickBooks Desktop version 2022 R3 for the multi-user to work perfectly.
If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our support team to check your account. They have the tools to find the root cause of your concern and find a fix.
Moreover, let me share this article to help set up a multi-user network so computers on your network can access your company files: Multi-user setup.
Fill me in if you have further questions about this matter. I'll be around to provide additional input to resolve your concern. Stays safe!
Again, this does not work.
We cannot uninstall prior versions of QuickBooks. We need to continue to use the prior versions AND Qb 2022.
That is the problem.
After a clean install of QB 2022 R3 the prior years of QuickBooks will NOT WORK in multi user mode.
