3 hours inactive sign out

I get it.  Security is important, but who decided....

  • When user is logged out every 3 hours due to inactivity, logging back in to a tab takes that user back to the home screen instead of reopening where the tab last was.....
  • Why does every other open tab still needs refreshed - seems that logging in should refresh all automatically.
  • And when another open tab is refreshed after inactivity, why does it also reverts back to the home screen?
  • Don't most users have 4-5 tabs open minimum during sessions?  Who thunk forcing every one of us to remember and reopen all tabs to get back to where we were was a good idea?.

Lastly, can that person be forced to use QBO desktop app?  I figure that is when this obvious shortfall will be fixed?  And why did this 3 hour signout start happening only a week ago - hasn't been a problem all year long.

3 hours inactive sign out

I genuinely care about your experience, Angelo. I understand that you want the page to automatically go back to where you left off after logging in again and skipping the need to refresh the other tabs manually.

In QuickBooks Online (QBO), there's a timeout feature for security purposes. You're right on this. This functionality helps prevent unauthorized persons from accessing your data when you're away from your computer.

The default setting is 1 hour. Since you mentioned that it started to change last week, we can check your settings to see if there have been any changes.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon. Select Account and Settings.
  2. Head to the Advanced section.
  3. Click Edit from the Other Preferences section.

You will be automatically directed to the Home page when you log in again after your session expires.

For now, I recommend providing your suggestions to our product development team, as the feature to automatically resume where you left off after logging back in and skip the need to refresh other tabs manually is unavailable.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon, then choose Feedback.
  2. Type in your valuable recommendations.
  3. Hit Next to submit.

Always remember that your input matters. Track your recommendations through our
QBO Feature Requests website.

It's always a good idea to save your transactions to prevent the need to recreate them each time you automatically sign out.

Moreover, you might want to view your user logs. For reference, see this article: Use the audit log in QBO.

Sending your ideas to our engineering team enables us to assess and pursue possible enhancements. I'm always here to lend a hand if you need further assistance with the time duration feature.

3 hours inactive sign out

ShyMae, my inactivity setting is already at 3 hours (see original post.) Please know that I already know where it is and how to do it.

Such an unauthorized person would have to get past my security system and my dogs to even touch my keyboard.  Then they need to know my password to log in.  But QB feels I need a 4th layer of security???  Go figure.

I followed your instructions, went to feedback - told them "ShyMay wanted me to send you this community post" and copy/pasted my question.

Thank you.
