Google Chrome browsers crash when Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021 is open

I am having this same issue. I am very reluctant to call support as they never seem to be able to fix anything. I too am looking for an alternative to QB. The program used to be so great now it is just a mess. My Chrome browser crashes when I open QB Desktop Pro Plus 2022, and I only had this problem when I had to upgrade. Now I am paying a yearly fee for a program that has major problems.

Disabling the QB Web Connector and Intuit Data Protection at startup resolved the issue for my user, but obviously if you need those services, that's not an option. QB needs to really up their game in a lot of ways, or many are going to jump ship, and, support is worthless. They basically told me it's not their problem. I doubt that we'll renew next year, primarily because of that interaction with support.

I am also having same issue as others using QB Pro Plus 2022.  Except my Notepad closes as well as Chrome. Funny thing is that notepad will close if its already a saved file but a new notepad open that has not been saved stays open like it should.

Have not tried leaving lots of other apps open to see if they get closed out but these are usually always open on my desktop and not affected: Outlook 365, Adobe, Windows Explorer.

Just to clarify, removing those items from startup only resolved it for one user. Another is still experiencing the Chrome crash, generally the first time she logs in to QuickBooks that day. As she isn't in QB all day, and there are multiple companies (switching companies can also cause it), loading QB first and then Chrome isn't a solution.

This is really something Intuit should dive into and find a resolution for. Not just tell users when they call that it's "not a QB problem." None of us experienced it before upgrading.

I have been having the same trouble.  Sometimes when opening quickbooks desktop 2022, but mostly when changing companie files, chrome, file explorer or outlook (365) would close.  Didn't happen every single time I switched company files, but I work in several company files a day, so it happens a couple or more times a day.

It didn't make a difference if I was in multi-user or hog mode.

Today I made sure everything was updated: QB's, windows 10, office 365.

Then I disabled the QBWC in services.

I turned off Intuit Data Protection in startup.

then I rebooted my computer.

I have switched company files several times now, and can't seem to get it to crash anything now.

Also, switching company files now seems to load MUCH faster.

I don't think I need Web Connector anyways, as I don't sync or download any financial accounts.

I'm hoping this fixes it.

We don't download or sync financial accounts.  If you do, this may not work for you.

Really annoying. I'm just here to say that I too am experiencing this issue.

I download transactions from my bank. Has anybody found any other solution besides disabling web connect? I'd hate to have to download transactions to my PC then upload them to each QB file.

Commenting here to hopefully get a notification if someone finds a true fix. Called QB support and they said that it is not their application causing the crashes. Then I showed them the attached Event Viewer logs that I'd say state otherwise and they told me they will send this to their IT team and get back to me, but didn't even leave an open case. I have not heard back in 10 days. I referenced this forum that dates back to a year ago today. I have 5 users that deal with QB crashing Chrome, Outlook, and sometimes Excel when opening a company file. QB Tool Hub, repairing/re-installing QB, running file doctor on several company files, repairing/re-installing the crashing applications, Windows updates, and QB updates have not worked. We need QBWC running so disabling that isn't an option.

I've exhausted all of my troubleshooting, hopefully one day someone will post a fix that doesn't prevent the use of other features. For now, I am highly disappointed in QuickBooks Support and my users are also not happy with their applications crashing multiple times a day. NetSuite looks good right now.

We too are running into the same exact issue. No matter what the default browser is, whether it be chrome or edge something in QuickBooks is causing it to crash. I have seen this on two separate networks with two separate clients who use quickbooks at this point. Both are on Desktop/Enterprise 2022. Both use the QBDB service on their file servers. No network drops are occurring or any other issue other than QB causing these applications to crash. Support seems to insist that it is not their problem despite Quickbooks literally being the common denominator. We have even completely replaced one of the computers having the issue with no change. Below are some events that we have recorded leading up to the crash, hopefully they can be useful to determine the issue so that Intuit can fix this.

Google Chrome browsers crash when Quickbooks Desktop Pro Plus 2021 is open

After posting this, I was made aware that we actually are not using the QBWC feature in our environment. I disabled this and Intuit Data Protection on all my users machines, but QB is still crashing the same applications as before. This is becoming a serious issue, as it is crashing all Office 365 applications (alongside Chrome) and many of our accountants use Excel alongside QB. So when QB sporadically crashes Excel, they lose any unsaved work.

Now I get 10+ reports of QB crashing my user's applications each day, and having no more solutions for them is damaging the reputation my entire sysadmin team. I understand that Intuit is moving their focus toward QB Online, but the fact that this issue still doesn't have a fix / patch / workaround is terrible.

Have you tried to create "Everyone" username with "Full Control" permission settings on their C drive to isolate the issue?

I don't know what that means. I am a solo user and it happens regardless of whether I am signed in as admin or not. Support keeps telling me it is NOT an issue, but it clearly is. I manage 3 companies - I am back and forth between 3 company files and 3 email accounts all day every day. When it crashes Chrome, I have to log back in to all 3 accounts - I waste SOOOO much time every day logging back in to gmail. Now they want me to use 2 step verification so I am not even able to email from QB anymore because I refuse to upgrade and lose even more of my day.

We had some of our clients to do the workaround I mentioned earlier, some of them have to stick with their QBD 2021 for now, and some of them had to reinstall in Win 8 compatibility mode.

I'll help you fix the QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) crashing issue, @uggraphics. This way, you can work efficiently and complete your tasks in no time.

Please note that QBDT 2022 requires internet access and Internet Explorer 11 (32-bit). I'd recommend using the browser requirement to isolate the crashing issue. For more information, see this article: System requirements for QuickBooks Desktop 2022.

If you prefer using Chrome, I'd recommend following the workarounds provided by the previous user and Fiat if you haven't already.

I'll outline a few steps below in case you require them.

  • Ensure that your QBDT release is R5
  • Update your office 365 to the latest release. Proceed with the following steps:

  1.  Open an Office application and select the File menu.
  2. Choose Account or Office Account.
  3. In the Product Information window, hit on Update Options next to Office updates.
  4. Click Update Now.

  •   Disabled the QuickBooks Web Connector. Go as follows:

  1. Open the Start menu and click All Programs.
  2. Click Startup, followed by QuickBooks.
  3. Right-click Exchange Data With Web Services.
  4. Click Delete, then Yes to disable the connector.

Check out these articles below to learn the new enhancement in QBDT 2022 and fix some issues:

When you're feeling down about QuickBooks, just let me know. I'll listen to you, and we'll figure out the best solution together.

Sorry, I'm not sure how granting everyone access to C drive would isolate the issue. The problem occurs when loading company files that are stored on a network drive. This worked without a problem while we were on QBDT 18, we upgraded to 22 in March and this problem began to arise a month ago.

Hi MichelleBh!

Thanks for the post, but for most of us, all those steps, and several others have been tried, with little or no success. Something else we tried early on was the recreation of the Chrome profile in C:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\Google\Chrome. Ordinarily, this forgives a multitude of Chrome sins, but had no effect on this problem. For my user, at least. If anyone tries this, I'd recommend just renaming the profile to something like Chrome.old, so you can easily roll it back if it doesn't help.

Also, I'm afraid that since Internet Explorer has reached end of life and is no longer supported, its use has become an unacceptable security risk. For testing and verification purposes though, I will briefly change the affected user's default browser to IE and see what happens, but QB should probably address that requirement.

As a bit of background, most of us with this issue seem to be running either QBDT-21 or QBDT-22 via the client-server model. QBDT-18 suffered from none of these problems, but from the day QBDT-22 was installed, for us at least, this has been a problem.

With the frustration many of us are experiencing, and in the interest of good customer service, it's really time for QB developers to dive in and figure out what's going on, and patch it.

Hi there, @uggraphics

Thanks for taking the time to follow up with us.

As my colleague mentioned above, your OS should be Windows 10, all 64-bit editions, natively installed. QuickBooks Desktop 2022 requires internet access and Internet Explorer 11 (32-bit). You can see all the details of our system requirements in System requirements for Desktop 2022

If you wish to use Chrome instead of Internet Explorer, please advise the workaround steps given by our champ user, Fiat Lux ASIA.

Please let me know if you have any other questions or concerns. Take care!

Support for Internet Explorer 11 has ended on June 15, 2022. I have been using Chrome for years and would like to continue using it. At least one person has stated using another browser didn't work.

I am not an IT person, just trying to keep my books. So frustrating. Why doesn't support log in remotely and fix this if it is a known issue? When I call, they tell me they have nothing to do with Chrome and it's not an issue.

@uggraphics

Consider to install the trial version for QB Desktop 2021 and compare it with QB Desktop 2022. If it runs normally, you may have time to request a refund for your QB Desktop 2022 license within 60 days of your purchase.

I asked to roll back immediately after I bought 2022 when I found out they discontinued Loan Manager and another feature I was using. They wouldn't let me because I was previously running 2019 and support had ended.

With all the money they charge us, I think the real solution is not for me to roll back or find a work-around - it's for Intuit to fix the issue.
