If I write checks sometimes it recalls last transaction for vendor and sometimes it doesn't no matter which circle is checked in recall information preference?

Good day, turf7,

Let me help you out with this query.

You'll need to turn on the auto-recall transactions feature in QuickBooks in order for your transactions to be recalled.
Here's how:

  1. Click on Edit.
  2. Select on Preferences.
  3. Put a check mark on Automatically remember account or transaction information.
  4. Select on Automatically recall last transaction for this name.

I've attached a screenshot for you to be guided through the steps.

If the issue still persists, we can try to verify and rebuild your data in QuickBooks. This will help you fix a data integrity issues. Repairing QuickBooks will be a good idea too, this can fix program-related issues.

If none of these steps works on your end, I'd suggest giving us a call so our specialists can dig down on this and see what's causing the issue. Please refer to this link on how to reach them https://community.intuit.com/articles/1501563

You can always visit the Community if you need further assistance. Have a good one.

Didn’t work..an example would be a monthly bill to the landscaper for the same amount..Quickbooks will fill in address, account but not amount(same every month) or memo

I have the same problem.  Most likely an issue with QB Desktop Pro 2018, since I updated it.

Go into your vendor tab, edit vendor, clear all on the account settings tab. I just figured this out and it's been bothering me for years!

I prefer to use the default Accounts, and I do not like the Prefill or Recall settings and turn them off.

It matters if:

You use Expenses tab or items tab or both.

And edit the Vendor name to see if you put Default accounts here (up to 3 are allowed).

If I write checks sometimes it recalls last transaction for vendor and sometimes it doesn't no matter which circle is checked in recall information preference?

I was hoping this was the answer --- nope.

My check box just cleared itself again so I immediately checked the name out --- not a vendor -- it is a name in the "Other Names" list and no preferences for accounts for them.

I am using the 2017 Desktop Accountant's version; I don't remember this issue in the earlier versions?

It doesn't seem to matter which of the choices I make under the "automatically remember..." -- I've tried them both.  It will work for a few entries (I use the batch enter transactions because I am entering 20-40 transactions at a time from multiple names --- Others, Vendors...)

I've been working in QuickBooks since before there was a version number.  Recently started using this Accountant Batch Feature because I dont need a lot of notes at the bottom.  My QBES17 Accountant version is doing the same thing.  Out of nowhere it all of a sudden the preference to automatically recall is unmarked totally.  Put it back, works for awhile and then BAM, gone again.  And yes i do keep my QB updated.  I have over 100 clients, have to stay on top of things.  This is a new one to me.

Hi there, @crystala.

I'd be glad to help check why the preference to automatically recall transaction is unmarked in QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT).

Since you're QBDT is always updated and the issue happens, you may need to verify and rebuild your QuickBooks data to help us isolate the cause of this unexpected behavior. For the detailed steps, you  may check this article: Verify and Rebuild Data in QuickBooks Desktop.

If the issue persists, I suggest contacting our Support Team to check and investigate this further securely. For the support's contact information, you can check it here: Contact the QuickBooks Desktop Customer Support Team.

Please feel free to add a post/comment below if you have any other QuickBooks questions. I'll be around to help you!

Not a data issue or update issue.  This has been an issue in every version of QB since the batch entry feature came out.  Every time I do batch entry I have to go back into my preferences and remark the checkbox to automatically recall.  This has been in every client in ever version of QB for years now.  I fix would be great.  The only thing I found that will help not unmark it is a) you can only tab through the fields in the batch entry, as soon as you use the arrows you lose the setting.  You cannot copy or paste in the batch entry, or the setting disappears too.  Usually, if I reverse tab I will lose the setting too, but not every time (might have something to do with how many spaces you reverse tab).   All I know is that it is a QB issue, not a file issue (like I said years with every client and every version of QBs, just like everyone else posting here).    It is a pain in the butt and super annoying, and have been hoping for a fix, instead of the popular update your software or repair you file answer the give for everything, even after you say you have done all that and it is over 100 clients and every version since batch entry came out :-(

Hello, @littlemidget.

On the other hand, it would also be best if you can get in touch with one of our QuickBooks Specialists. They have extra tools that can pull up your account securely and be able to check and investigate this further.

In case you have any other QuickBooks concerns in the future, you can always check our help articles: QuickBooks Desktop Help articles.

If I write checks sometimes it recalls last transaction for vendor and sometimes it doesn't no matter which circle is checked in recall information preference?

Angelyn_T:  how can you "ensure" we won't go through this again.  Obviously the engineers have not been able to accomplish this.  UNLESS you are telling me that it's fixed?

Advising us to take time on the phone with your QuickBooks Specialists just says to us that you don't know what's wrong.  Mine has been doing this for years and i'm pretty sure @littlemidget and I are not running identical systems.  So my request is that the fixers re-enact what we've all said is happening and if they can't then just tell us that in this string.  Sadly, these surface comments are just not helping.  We need a little more depth and it needs to be Intuit's time that is taken up to dig and let us know what you found.

Thank you for listening, this is just a bit more than frustrating.

Hey there, @LorryMarie,

Thanks for sharing your insights with us. I’m here to provide some clarification about the Accept as Solution functionality.

The original poster and other users in this forum have the option to mark an answer as an accepted solution. Once a response is posted to the thread, the Accept as Solution button is made available. Clicking this icon automatically tags a post as Solved on the main feed.

An accepted response is highlighted at the top of the thread and shows as Best Answer so that others browsing the topic do not have to scroll through multiple pages of responses to get an answer to their question.

It also does not turn off the notification for any updates added and does not stop others from commenting on the thread.

Please feel free to get back to me if you have any questions along the way. I’ll be glad to check on them for you. Have a good one!

Thanks, Jen.  Does this mean the described problem is still being addressed by programmers to be fixed in future updates?

It is extremely frustrating to have to continually go back to preferences and recheck the box that was previously checked and QB cleared on its own.  It stops the work flow when entering batches of credit card entries for my clients and causes me to spend more time than it should.

If I write checks sometimes it recalls last transaction for vendor and sometimes it doesn't no matter which circle is checked in recall information preference?

Unfortunately, the response from each of the QB Reps is not addressing our issue.  And i'm wondering if we need to start a new thread since this one started out as a different Query, has been marked Solved and has a Best Answer (which it wasn't even for the first query).  There was a good answer to that one, which was to clear all three accounts in the Account Settings Tab of the vendor you're having issues with.

But, our issue is different MirriamM.  And while we appreciate you responding, it was a standard generic response that could have been to any questions on your entire website.  So tomorrow when we get a survey email about how our Priority Circle Rep is helping us, we'll get the same default email back that says I hope your issue was resolved but please contact me if i can be of further service.  it has been a viscous circle on this issue, definitely not a priority circle.

It's hard to keep quiet when all we want is a straight answer.  It's either on the board or it's not.

@crystala Crystala I think you are right - open a new thread and copy in the investigative work @littlemidget has already taken the time to document.  The programmers should be able to recreate the problem we are experiencing.

Right now I don't have the time to do that myself and really appreciate the effort  @littlemidget has put forth.  Being able to recreate the problem should certainly give the programmers a boost in fixing this annoyance.  And we won't mark it as SOLVED until it really is.

Great Answer.  Maybe a little more clear:

Vendors > Vendor Center > Double-Click Vendor at Issue > Account Settings Tab > Clear All > OK
