QuickBooks Online (QBO) does not have such a feature. However, you can check for third-party software that can assist you in adding QR codes to invoices.
I'll share the link to our QuickBooks App Center with you. Another option is to go to your QBO account's Apps menu.
Here's how to do it:
From the sidebar menu, choose Apps.
To find apps, go to the Find Apps tab.
To filter the results, type a keyword into the search bar or click the Browse category option.
Your message states this is not a feature... Is it in the works to be a feature? I ask because I created an invoice today, selected Print/Preview and the preview window popped open with the option to add a QR Code. I thought, "Awesome, this will be great for some of my customers." Then I created another invoice for a different client and the typical preview window popped open without the QR code option. What gives? I do not understand how it "Is Not" and option when it clearly pops up for some of my customers and the does not pop up for others.
As referenced by my peers above, adding QR code on invoices is currently unavailable in QuickBooks Online. You may have turned some third-party application that supports this feature the reason why you have the option to add a QR code.
You may search for third-party applications that integrate well and provide seamless scanning of barcodes. Though, we're unable to provide recommendations on which one to use.
I suggest you visit the QuickBooks Apps site and look for an app that meets your business needs. You can also do this inside your company, just go to Apps on the left panel and then enter a keyword in the search field.
In case you need help with utilizing your sales forms templates in QuickBooks Online as well as on what other information you can add, you can go through the resources below:
QuickBooks previously auto-generated a QR code in an invoice... when you clicked on print or preview, there was an optional checkbox to include a QR code or a link to payment when printing or previewing. This feature was great, but is no longer appearing as of a few days ago. Please share information on this if you have any!
For now, I’m unable to share with you the specific time frame as to when this feature will be available in QuickBooks Online (QBO). I’ll take note of this and let our engineering team know so they’ll consider adding this in the future. They're always looking for ways to improve our product to satisfy our customer’s needs.
In the meantime, you can visit our Apps store and look for a third-party app that integrates well with QBO and lets you add a QR code in your invoice. You can refer to the link shared by my colleague Jovychris_A above.
You can also go to the Apps menu in your QBO account and browse for an app from there. Additionally, I recommend checking our QuickBooks blog page from time to time. Here, you'll stay updated on the latest news and happenings in QuickBooks.
Also, allow me to add this article that can guide you through the complete process in case you need to refund your customer in the future: Record a customer refund in QuickBooks Online.
Let me know if there’s anything else I can help you with your QBO account. It’s always my pleasure to help you out. Have a nice day!
As I just posted in another thread on the community forum, a client of mine has recently came across this problem and requested me to create him a solution.
My solution is to append the QR code (and a custom text, like "Pay now via ___:" above it) to the PDF file of the invoice itself.
Would that be something that other QB users would want to use? If so - I am thinking of building an app for that to be listed and available for all QB users via the App Market (as suggested by @mv32, @Nick_M and @rvrfrf.)
It’s nice to see you in the Community today, Jane MC.
I’ll help and route you in the right direction on how to add the QR code to your invoices.
As mentioned by my colleagues, you can use a third party to add the QR code to your invoices. We treat all businesses fairly, so I’m unable to recommend which one to use.
The QuickBooks Apps site is a place where you’ll find third-party applications that integrates with the online program. To expedite the process, type a keyword in the search box.
You can check the customers’ reviews to get a better comparison of each app. Then choose the one that best suits your need the most.
I also invite you to visit the QuickBooks Blog to keep you in the loop on the latest news about the product. From there, you'll see the features added to QBO and resources to help your business thrive.
Dont hesitate to hit the Reply button if you have additional questions or concerns. As always, I'm only a few clicks away for help. Have a great rest of the day.

If you're looking to apply for a QuickBooks Payments account, you won't need a QR code for the application process. You can apply for an account from our Accept Payments Online page. After applying, it takes up to 2 business days to get an approval email. Sometimes our team may need more information before a decision can be made. If this happens, you'll receive an email explaining what's needed.
