Windows Event ID 4 errors when opening QuickBooks Enterprise 24.0 usually indicate a problem with Microsoft components (like the .NET Framework) or with QuickBooks Desktop installation files. To resolve this, run the QuickBooks Install Diagnostic Tool via the QuickBooks Tool Hub.

Here's how:

  1. Open the QuickBooks Tool Hub.
  2. Go to Program Problems.
  3. Select QuickBooks Program Diagnostic Tool and let it run (may take up to 20 minutes).
  4. Restart your computer, then try QuickBooks again.

If the issue persists, consider manually repairing or reinstalling the Microsoft .NET Framework and ensuring that Windows and QuickBooks Desktop are fully updated.

To reinstall the .NET Framework, toggle it off and back on through the Windows Control Panel. Here’s how:

  1. Close all open programs and open the Windows Start menu.

  2. Search and open Control Panel.

  3. Go to Programs and Features and choose Uninstall a Program.

  4. Select Turn Windows features on or off, then locate .NET Framework on the list.

  5. Tick the checkbox to turn on .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and 4.5 (or later) if it’s not enabled.

  6. Hit OK to save your change and restart your computer.

  7. If it’s enabled, uncheck it, and save the changes.

  8. Restart your computer and follow the steps again to turn on .NET Framework 3.5 SP1 and 4.5 (or later).
