Question

Memo Alignment too low

Hi QB Community -

My checks align perfectly except for one area the memo line. Is it possible to fine tune the alignment for that specific area. I don't want to adjust the rest of alignment as they are working properly.

I thought I could possibly just add the memo to the voucher sections but I don't see a way to do that. Is my only solution to remove it altogether?

Thanks for any advice. This one is a head scratcher, at least for me.

Let's work together to get the alignment on the printing check fixed as soon as possible. It only takes three easy steps to resolve this problem, mikeNSM.

We recommend using Adobe Acrobat for printing checks. Adobe Reader is required for printing both Standard and Voucher checks. Here’s how to download it and set it as your default PDF viewer:

  1. Click the + New Plus icon.
  2. Select Print checks.
  3. Tap Print setup.
  4. Select No, continue setup.
  5. Hit the latest version of the Reader link. This takes you to Adobe’s page where you can download the latest version of Acrobat Reader.
  6. After installing Acrobat, go back to QuickBooks. Then select the How? link to set Adobe Reader as your browser’s default PDF viewer.
  7. Go back to QuickBooks and select View preview and print sample. Then select Print.
  8. Follow the on-screen steps to finish printing your sample check.
  9. Check the alignment of your sample against a blank check.

If the alignment looks good, then you’re ready to print on your regular checks. If the check still doesn’t line up or the memo alignment is still low, here’s how you can fine-tune your check alignment:

  1. Click the + New Plus icon.
  2. Select Print checks.
  3. Tap Print setup.
  4. Select No, continue setup. Then select No, continue setup again. This opens up the check-in an alignment window where you can adjust the margins to correct the alignment:
  5. In the check image window, drag the grid so the numbers are in the same place they appear on your sample print. QuickBooks will automatically adjust the alignment. The numbers on the vertical and horizontal fields are adjustable and tell QuickBooks exactly where to print the check amount.
  6. After adjusting the grid, select View preview and print sample. Then press Print.
  7. Follow the on-screen steps to finish printing your sample check
  8. Check the alignment of your sample against a blank check.
  9. Repeat the grid alignment process and print as many times as you need until your check is aligned correctly.
  10. Press Finish Setup.

If the Memo alignment is still off, you might need to adjust the scale on your print dialog box. When you select the print option in QuickBooks, your default print dialog box opens. Depending on your setup, this might be the print dialog from your browser, Adobe Acrobat, or your printer’s driver. The steps for adjusting the scale or page size vary for each printing experience. Here are some common tips for adjusting the scale of your tool:

  • Learn how to adjust the print scale in Adobe Acrobat.
  • Learn how to adjust the print scale in common Brother printers.
  • Learn how to scale or resize the printout in common HP printers (look for layout and formatting settings).
  • Learn how to adjust the print scale in common Canon printers.

If you need more help fine-tuning your alignment, here’s how to troubleshoot printing checks and forms. For other printing alignments, here’s what you need to know for setting up paychecks1099 forms, and sales forms.

I am having the same issue with the memo printing too low.  I have Adobe Acrobat Pro but don't see the + new plus icon in your directions.

Welcome to the Community, Lynn.

Let me share information regarding the check alignment of your memo using your QuickBooks Online (QBO) account.

You can edit the alignment of your memo inside your QBO account, where you can find the + New icon you’ve been looking for. To fine-tune your check alignment you can, follow the steps below:

1. Go to the + New icon.

2. Select Print checks, then choose Print setup.

4. In the check image window, drag the grid so the numbers are in the same place they appear on your sample print. QuickBooks will automatically adjust the alignment.

5. After altering the grid, choose View Preview and Print, then click Print.

6. To finish printing your sample check, follow the onscreen steps.

7. Review the sample if it aligns with a blank check.

Checking in in October 2024 - the issue continues. Submitted a "Bug report" feedback within QuickBooks Desktop to add to the cause. Just letting everyone know they are not alone!

It is now June 2025 and still no progress by QB in fixing this issue.

Currently, adjusting the memo alignment on the check isn't possible, NA1234.

We understand that adding this feature could help create the desired appearance for your check. While we can't provide an exact timeframe for when this will be available, I recommend sending feedback to our product developers through your QuickBooks Online account.

To send feedback, here's how:

  1. Go to the Gear icon at the top.
  2. Select Feedback.
  3. Enter your comments or product suggestions.
  4. Then select Next to submit feedback.

To keep up with the latest advancements that can enhance your workflow, increase your productivity, and improve your business performance, you can check out this page: QuickBooks Blog

In case your checks aren't printing properly, select the some checks need reprinting option or the option to keep checks in the Print checks list. You might need to access the print setup and modify your alignment settings.

Spring 2026 and still no resolution. Ridiculous. I have submitted feedback. I'm using Quickbooks Online and should be able to adjust the alignment of where the individual fields print on my checks. My memo line prints into the border of the check and everything else runs a little high, but if I move "everything" down, the memo field is going to run into the routing numbers.
