Beth Chargin wrote about using QBDT 2011 in multiuer mode on 2 Macs in the same network, with just one user, which is what I want to do. Questions:

Is this the same in QBDT 2016 R33 & OS10.13.6?

What if QB was installed in the secondary Mac first, along with the server? How do I set miultiuser up when I install QBDT on the primary Mac? Do I have to delete (where is it?) Server on the first Mac to make this work?

Can this arrangement be done with more than 2 Macs & one user, all using QBDT 2016, & just one user?

Would this arrangement work between different versions of QBDT on the same network? Say, 2016 & 2020 on different Macs w/different OSs?

Considering QB Self-Employed app on a current iOS platform, will that be another user in the above scheme or is there any additional setup?

Let me breakdown your questions a bit to make sure everything is addressed.

To answer your first question, yes, QuickBooks Desktop 2016 has the same multi-user feature as the 2011 version. However, I'd like to inform you that QBDT 2016 has already been discontinued. Thus, I suggest upgrading it to the latest version so you can continue working with the offered online services.

For your second question about setting up multiuser, you'll want to consider the Peer to peer hosting method. This ways, the computer that has the company file (host) allows other computers to access the file.

Regarding your question about arrangement work between different versions of QBDT (2016&2020), this is not possible. Once company file is being updated to a higher version (2020), you can no longer open it in the older version (2016). Having multiple users in different computers is only applicable within the same versions.

For your last question, QuickBooks Self-Employed (QBSE) is considered to be a different platform. Thus, you'll need to subscribe to a separate QBSE version.

How many user license do you have for QBD Mac?

Keep in mind, QBD and QBSE are 2 different products, and you can run them at the same time on the same machine if required.
