A work uniform can be categorized under Other business expenses, as long as it is protective clothing or a specialist uniform that isn't everyday clothing. Everyday clothing, such as suits, shirts, dresses, or ordinary shoes, can't be claimed even if it's only worn for work.

Here's how to update the category:

  1. Go to the Bank transactions tab under the Transactions menu.
  2. Click Select a category in the Category column under that specific transaction.
  3. Then choose Other business expenses.

HMRC allows the cost of items such as branded uniforms, high-visibility jackets, aprons, or safety boots. For complete details, review HMRC's official guidance on expenses if you're self-employed, or confirm with your accountant if you're unsure whether your item qualifies.
