Does anyone know how to overcome the issue of'missing info' when manually uploading bank data? Some transactions are accepted but majority have a red exclamation mark

I have to upload manually as I need to bring in data that is more than 12 months ago. I cleaned up the data and ran a sample test to qb to check I had the correct fields and headers. Everything was fine, however, once I upload the actual data, some transactions are accepted but most contain a red error message says that 'something is missing from the file? I have tried with a smaller amount of transaction but the same error message appears. Is this common? and if so how do i fix it? Thanks

Hi there, @cuttingroom-ouim.

Thanks for sharing detailed information about your concerns. The issue you've encountered appears when QuickBooks is unable to read the data you've uploaded due to incorrect mapping.

To resolve this, ensure you have chosen the correct columns in the mapping stage. To make it easier, delete columns you do not need from your CSV to avoid any confusion. The columns that are only required by QuickBooks are:

  • Date
  • Description
  • Amount

Then, change the names of the columns in your CSV to match the titles in QuickBooks.

For additional insights, you can check out this link to learn more about formatting CSV files in Excel to get bank transactions into QuickBooks.

Let me know again if you have an additional concern about anything else in QuickBooks. Take care!

Hi Katherine,

Thanks for the suggestions.  I had already taken all the steps you have suggested.  I even tested a small sample to ensure the correct number of coloumns were used and that all numerical data removed within the descriptions.  Alas!  Still no joy.
