So I got the notification today that I will no longer be able to download bank data.

So is there still the option to manually import the web data file, or have you just disabled the entire feature?  I can't imagine that this will be a popular move for any of your customer base...I know that I'm planning to downgrade to an earlier version of quickbooks (back as far as I have to go to find a version that you can't go in and disable), but I thought I would ask.

If  I sold a customer a car in 2018, but 2 years later went to their house, yanked out the engine, and left a note saying "Thank you for being a loyal customer.  We have removed the engine to your car because I want you to buy a new car.  Now here's the GREAT thing, we no longer SELL cars, you have to rent the new car from us. It's a REALLY GOOD thing that you have to pay me every month.  Paying me every month will keep me from doing things like, for example, removing the engine from the car you already owned."

Welcome aboard to the Community space, @Squishy.

Recently, QuickBooks release an update about the discontinuation service. QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) 2018 and other older versions are scheduled to be discontinued.

Your access to Live Support, Online Banking, and add-on services will be impossible after May 31, 2021. However, if you don't have any add-on services, rest assured, your software will continue to work for you.

To avail of our service, you'll want to upgrade your QBDT to the newer versions. To learn more about this, you can refer to this link: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy and upgrade information.

With regards to manually importing your bank transactions, yes, this option is still possible. Let me show you how.

  1. Open a web browser and sign in to your bank’s website.
  2. Follow the instructions to download your transactions as a QuickBooks Web Connect (.qbo) file.
  3. Once done, go to the Banking menu.
  4. Select Bank Feeds, then Import Web Connect Files.
  5. Click the QBO file you saved, then select Open.
  6. When prompted to Select Bank Account, select:
    • Use an existing QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into is already set up in QuickBooks.
    • Create a new QuickBooks account if the account you're importing transactions into isn't in QuickBooks yet. Learn how to create an account.
  7. Select Continue, then OK.
  8. Go to the Bank Feeds Center to review your transactions.

You can also read the Import Web Connect (.qbo) file section in this article for more details: Set up bank accounts for Bank Feeds in QuickBooks Desktop.

Once done, you'll want to categorize your transactions and reconcile your accounts. This way, we'll ensure your book is properly recorded. To be guided, check out these links:

I'll be around if you have other concerns or questions managing your transactions. It's always my pleasure to help you. Keep safe!

July 1, 2021

I did all above steps and downloaded a .qbo file but every time I try and choose an existing Quickbooks account It will not allow me to choose any account I have and is forcing me to "create a new account" in order to import them.

Let me make it up to you by making sure you'll be able to import your file into QuickBooks, @JCAbooks4taxes.

When having issues with importing WebConnect files, we can create a new test bank account. Then, merge it to your original account to avoid duplicates. Doing so will help us determine if the account is corrupted or not.

To do this, here's how:

  1. Go to the Lists menu at the top.
  2. Choose Chart of Accounts from the drop-down.
  3. Tick the radio button for Bank and click Continue.
  4. Enter the correct bank's name in the Account Name field.
  5. Click Save and Close.
  6. Right-click the old account and rename it to the correct bank's name.
  7. Click Save and Close.
  8. Choose Yes when you get the prompt to merge the accounts.

You may check this article for additional reference: Fix Web Connect import errors.

Keep me posted if you have more questions about managing your file in QuickBooks. I'll be here to help.

@Squishy

You won't be able to run the bank feeds feature on QBD 2018 starting June 1 but you can still import the bank statement manually. You may consider purchasing a one time license of QBD 2021 to upgrade your file, or utilize a 3rd party coverer app to work with your QBD 2018.

I bought my first copy of quicken in '93 (it was promoted/suggested in either an accounting or finance class in university) so that I could monitor my spending, and chart out my net worth over time.  By the year 2000, by projecting the net worth line to age 55, I realized that I would only have a net worth of ~$200,000 by the time I was 55 if I had kept on the route I was going (debt, interest payments, superfluous purchases, etc etc), which changed the course of my entire life.  At this point, I own 3 houses, and a small biotech business that brings in ~2 million gross per year (hence the need for using quickbooks!), and a debt level of zero.  I say this not to be a braggart, but to explain that I seriously owe the whole change of life to Anthony Robbins books, and Quicken.  I have never had anything but nice things to say of the product and company, until literally last night, when I was given ~4 days notice that my software had been "upgraded", and that to ensure it doesn't get "upgraded" again, I'd best fork over some cash.  It's not the cost I'm upset with, it's the manner in which you went about it.

In the real world, offering improvements that make upgrading worthwhile is how you sell a product, not wrecking something that WAS functioning just because you know it's difficult for people to learn new software, and even harder migrating company files, especially for the casual user.

So I appreciate the help and the steps to get the file manually, but now I'm wary that it might get "upgraded" again, and because I don't want to read any more "well you should upgrade to the latest version of quickbooks, for a low low monthly fee that's almost only pennies a day!" I've spent the day working on building spreadsheets to try and do what quickbooks does, at least in regards to tax and salary payments.  All this after taking the time and effort to learn quickbooks (instead of simply accounting).  I just feel betrayed and angry....so while I do appreciate the help, save that upselling for someone else.  Quite literally I'm now an "ex" customer, it's just a matter of how long it will take me to migrate. So best of luck with this new business model.

I totally agree with you, I feel the same way. I feel they intruded the software I bought and changed it to force me to buy something new.

August 13, 2021

I feel the same way, I feel Quickbooks went into my computer and changed my software that I purchased 3 years ago, now it does not work properly unless I subscribe to an yearly plan, which went from $199 for a 3 year desktop to $199 for the first year and $299 per year after that. What kind o price increase is that? How are you helping small business?

You can still purchase a one time license of QBD 2021 Pro for 1 user worth $400 thru your local reseller. If you couldn't find any of them, contact us in private.

Why should we have to buy yet another program, when we've already paid good money for what we are using now.  We should be able to continue to use what we purchased, even if it is without the "award winning customer support"  That's a joke!  I am paying the "VIP" prices and can NEVER access anyone who knows how to help with the simplest issues.  I spend hours and hours studying and self-teaching for something I've paid good money to have that "expert" level of assistance.

If there is a lawsuit for this mishap of justice, I want to join in!

Was looking to update my impervious ver of QB yesterday and to my dismay  after a hour on support sales chat (that is just horrible --->support chat for sales) So,yes it looks like intuit is gotten greedy, and now holding the loyal customers feet to the fire!  As a long time very loyal user  I am livid they would choose to pull this  underhanded horse manure on us good folks. What happened Intuit?  CEO needs a new Mega Yacht and  G-6?

Any specific concern?

April 4, 2022

I have a 2018 desktop version.  Yes, they are forced subscriptions, and to add on, they tried to charge my CC on file to renew/upgrade without my authorization, than sent me a threatening email, that I was cut off, which I already knew I was.   Thought it was a scam, but it looks really legit.

Is QB hurting that much?  They have to resort  to these measures?  Hmmmm.

@oakman2000

Who are "they"? Your QBD 2018 is outdated since last year and I'm not sure Intuit will send another email recently to "force" upgrade your license.

June 15, 2022

Class Action Lawsuit? I've purchased QB Pro 2013, 2016, 2019 and all because my bank feeds would not work unless I upgraded. Now I have to purchase 2022 which is an ANNUAL SUBSCRIPTION of 549.99 so bank feeds would work.

August 2, 2022

Had to do the same. Besides the bank feeds, they shut down the email capabilities for the software. So the two most important communications to the QB software I've been buying since 1999 won't work and any work arounds would require me hours of my time. This is how QB knew they would force you to upgrade. I was complaining when they were pulling it on 2016 and 2019. At least with 2016, I felt like I was getting something more from the prior version since the graphics and some functions changed. My upgrade from 2019 to 2022 didn't change anything. Graphics, function, navigation are all exactly the same. I only gained back the ability to communicate with the bank and email invoices (through my server) to clients.

Wish some would come up with a hack to unlock all the software I bought in the past with QB. I bet I've spent thousands with this monkey business.

October 1, 2022

This is what recently happened to me. My 2019 desktop version was disabled. I use it for invoicing and payment documenting only. I can't believe that quickbooks had access to do this on my personal computer. Is there a legal action going on to address this breach? I can't tell you how stressful this was. I have a desktop version. I did not realize they had access to my personal computer What else on my computer did they have access to? Someone please let me know what is going on regarding this issue.

What do you mean with "disabled"? Can you access your CAMPS as the Primary Contact and find your license there?

Hi there, @10894th. Let me provide insights about your QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) subscription.

I want you to know that QuickBooks or Intuit don't have any access to your personal computer or data.

The version (QBDT 2019) you're using was discontinued on May 31, 2022. We don't disable the product. QuickBooks will continue to work for you. However, you can no longer access the add-on services and subscribe to live technical support. Unsupported versions won't receive the latest security patches and updates.

For more details about the service discontinuation, open this link: QuickBooks Desktop service discontinuation policy.

If you wish to enjoy the latest features and add-on services, you may upgrade to the QuickBooks Desktop version that's right for you and your business.

Please feel free to post again if you have any additional questions with QuickBooks. I always have your back. Keep safe!

I also got in trouble due to this issue in Quickbook. Although i have small business and unable to understand how intuit help in small industry by doing such tactics.

What surprises most software users is that, as it turns out, Intuit and most other software companies don't actually sell software. They license it. You don't actually own it. You have a license to use it, subject to the whims of the publisher. It's more like leasing a car than owning one.

I have QuickBooks 2021 and I am asked to upgrade for the bank feeds to work. It sounds like a ransomware tactic for $700.00 to get my bank feeds back. Can't do a web connect file ether. That is there only solution. I only have maybe 50 items in bank feeds so I can do it manually. I am going to start with BBB but don't know where to go from there.

@BPK

Who asked you to upgrade your QBD 2021? They are still supporting QBD 2021 until May 2024 to run the bank feed feature.

November 26, 2022

I called tec support and was told that it was bank feed after going through all diagnostic with tool hub. I called the bank and they setup a dummy company and it would import with no problem. I called QuickBooks tec support and they told me that my QuickBooks was out of date and the new version would correct the problem. He said it would be about $700. I have 2021 and usually upgrade every two years but not at 7 or 8 hundred dollars.

December 2, 2022

I have been using QuickBook Desktop since 1995.    I am a independent bookkeeper and have 18 companies that I work with.    I always insisted that I would only run QuickBooks.    Generally each year, I would purchase a current Desktop QuickBooks Pro.  And since I work with so many companies I would purchase several of the products that always included  1 year of payroll.    I would do this because it was cost effective and cheaper than renewing payroll.    In 2021/2022, it no longer was cost effective to buy the newest version opting to renew payroll.

So I have 3 licenses now for 2021 Quickbooks and chose not to renew the subscription.  I am not able to import QBO files manually and now being told that even though payroll was renewed and  valid until May of 2023, I will not have access to even run it.

I have spent hours on the phone and in chat.    Everyone pushing to renew the $575 subscription, but further more pushing me to switch to the online version.  (By the way, runs nothing like desktop and personally hate it.)

The solution they offered to day, just purchase  1 new subscription and run all of my clients under 1 license.   However, they really could not confirm if my payroll subscriptions will transfer properly or if the merchant account will work.  I guess I will try it.

I am on board with anyone who wants to file a class action against Intuit.

I am currently seeking a new software company that can provide me with the software I need.     I am open for suggestions or referrals.

If you are working solo on a desktop (PC or Mac) to manage your books and only need basic features, you should explore this free program. You can use the program for as long as you like, use all the features and enter as much data as required. There are no time limits, no usage limits, no ads (at this time). This program is quite popular in Asia and Europe.
