Welcome to the Community, @knoxco61414.

I’m here to make sure you’re able to work on your company file on the new computer.

The easiest way to move your files is by creating a backup and putting it in a flash drive. Ready your product and license number and install QuickBooks Desktop on the brand new device. Here’s how:

  1. Download your version of QuickBooks Desktop. Save the file in a location where you can easily find it.
  2. Open the downloaded file (QuickBooks.exe) and follow the onscreen instructions.
  3. Accept the software license agreement, then tap Next.
  4. Enter the Product and License numbers and click Next.
  5. Pick Express install.
  6. Activate and update QuickBooks Desktop.

Check out these articles for the detailed steps: Install QuickBooks and Move your company files to another computer.

Once done, you can now move the backup company file. Follow the steps to restore it on the new computer. I’m adding this resource for your reference: Restore the backup.

Let me know how this goes for you! I'll be here for further assistance if it's needed. Best wishes.

For the Migrator Tool, when you click on lost password help the box that appears states "We can't recover your on-time password, but you can copy QuickBooks again.  That will let you choose new password."

But I CAN'T copy it again, it is wiped.

I can reload quickbooks easily, but I don't have any of my data because it is stuck in my thumb drive which won't recognize the One-Time Password that I set up

Glad to see you here in the Community, cjogobye.

I'm here to share additional troubleshooting steps so you can login to your QuickBooks account.

You'll first need to download the Automated password tool for QuickBooks Desktop. You use this to reset your QuickBooks Admin password. Please take note that the version of QuickBooks you last opened your company file with must be installed on your computer to be able to reset your password. Then, follow the steps below:

  1. After downloading, select your version of QuickBooks Desktop.
  2. Follow the onscreen instructions.
  3. When you're done accepting the license agreement, The Automated Password Reset tool will auto download.
  4. Then, run the Automated Password Reset tool and then enter the token number received via email.
  5. From the QuickBooks Desktop Products drop-down, select the same QuickBooks version.
  6. Select Browse for Company File, and then choose the company file you want to reset the password for. (Enter the correct Company File Admin User Name (if it's different from the name "Admin").
  7. Enter your New Password and then Confirm New Password.
  8. Select Reset Password to complete the process.

For more details about the whole process when using the Automated Password Reset Tool, kindly check out this link: Use the Automated Password Reset Tool for QuickBooks Desktop.

If this doesn't work, it would be best to contact our QuickBooks Care Support. They can conduct a thorough investigation to know what's causing this login issue. This way, they can come up with a fix. Below are the steps to contact support:

  1. Click Help at the top menu and select QuickBooks Desktop Help.
  2. In the Have a Question? window, enter a topic.
  3. Click Contact us.
  4. Hit the Stat Messaging button.

Please take note our operating hours for chat support depends on the version of QuickBooks that you're using. Please see this article for more details: Support hours and types.

Keep me posted for additional questions or other concerns. I'd be more than happy to help. Wishing you the best of luck.

I am having the same problem with the one-time password created to migrate. The new computer won't accept one-time passwords I create on the old one for the migration. I have tried this twice.

Welcome to the Community, @Bentoff.

I'll share some information about moving QuickBooks to another computer. To complete the process, you need to be the Company admin.

You can reset the password you created that doesn't work using the Automated password tool for QuickBooks Desktop. Download the tool and follow the succeeding prompts to remove the password.

Once done and you're still having the same issue, I recommend reaching out to our support to assist you further in resetting your password, as mentioned by Charies_M above.

As a workaround, I'll show you how to move your entire QuickBooks folder.

Here's how:

  1. Open QuickBooks and the desired company file.
  2. Press F2 (or Ctrl+1) to open the Product Info window.
  3. Look in the File Information section. It tells you where you saved company files on your hard drive.
  4. Open the Windows Start menu and then open File Explorer.
  5. Find the folder that has your company file.
  6. Right-click the folder and select Copy.
  7. Open the external device you'll use to move the files or open the new location on your hard drive. Then select Paste.

You now have a copy of your entire folder. You can transfer it to a different location on your hard drive or your new computer. Then pick Open or Restore an existing company in QuickBooks. Find the copied folder on your computer, then open the copied company file.

You can also check the common questions about reinstalling or moving an existing installation to learn more about the process.
