Next time you send a tax payment, enter the new password.

I need to update my eFTPS password in QB because my recent payments are rejectwed

August 23, 2021

I am so mad.  I pay a lot of money to this software.  I have been in business for 47 years and this password problem has happened twice now costing me hundreds of dollars in penalties.  My 940 and 941 payments have been being rejected because Quickbooks lost my PIN it did not change.  I had a problem with my Indiana Unemployment account and worked for hours with someone who had access to my desktop at Quickbooks right when this password was lost.

I think at a bare minimum your soft ware needs to send us a big bright red warning in bold print when our tax filings are rejected.  Running across this information months later by accident or getting a collection notice from the EFTPS system for penalties and interest is so angering!!!!  How would you like to thousands of dollars for a software program, have it loose you password that has not changed and then have to pay hundreds more in penalties.  I will definitely never recommend any business go with Quickbooks, there has to be something better or at least as good and less expensive.  I'm glad I will be retiring in a few more years.  I can't take much more of this.  And that there is no one to work through this with me.... what am I paying for?

Did you every get this resolved?  I started having the problem today with the reject because of password.  I have followed every step out there and my next step will be to call QB.  Any help would be great.

Let's make sure you'll be able to E-pay your payroll tax, max129-ss.

Once you set up your federal e-file and e-pay, you'll have to get PINs for each. The e-file PIN is a 10-digit number while your e-pay PIN is a 4-digit number.  If you don't have one, you'll want to contact the IRS. Then, uncheck the Remember my information for next time box, and make sure to update your PIN. Select the Remember my information for next time box again to save the new information. I've attached a screenshot for your guide:

For more information on how to handle payroll e-file and e-pay rejections, read this article: Handle Payroll E-file and E-Pay Rejections. Moreover, you can go to the E-Payments tab so you can check the status of the e-payed federal tax. You can check out this article for the complete information: Check e-pay status. This contains instructions on how to check an e-file status.

Let us know if you have any concerns about e-filing your payroll tax. We're here to help you all the time.

Welcome to the Community, BG110.

You can update your Electronic Federal Tax Payment System (EFTPS) internet password on the official EFTPS website. You won't need to purchase a new version of QuickBooks to accomplish this process. 2021 still functions with electronic tax payments.

After you've updated your EFTPS password, you'll want to be sure to change it in QuickBooks before making e-payments.

Here's how:

  1. Update your books to the latest release and download our latest tax table.
  2. Access your Payroll Center, then open the Pay Liabilities tab.
  3. In your Pay Taxes & Other Liabilities section, choose a federal liability to e-pay.
  4. Click View/Pay.
  5. Verify that E-payment is selected and hit E-pay.
  6. Untick the Remember My Information for next Time checkbox.
  7. Enter your 4-Digit PIN and new EFTPS Internet password.
  8. Specify any missing information.
  9. Select Submit.

Next time you make an e-payment, re-enter the 4-Digit PIN and EFTPS Internet password, then turn on your Remember My Information for next Time option.

You'll also be able to find many detailed resources about using QuickBooks in our help article archives.

If there's any additional questions, I'm just a post away. Have a fantastic day!
