Converting from Quickbooks Premium 2012 to Newer Desktop Version on Windows 11 PC

I had to replace my 12+ year old computer with a new one.  The old one was Windows 10 and was able to handle my old Quickbooks Premier 2012 software.  My new one is Windows 11 and apparently will not accommodate this software.  I use the basic accounting functions (invoice generation, General ledger, Accounts payable/receivables, Management reports). Therefore, I am seeking to purchase a non-subscription version of Quickbooks that will work on the new Windows 11 computer and also be able to convert the Quickbooks Premier 2012 files.

I can't seem to find any documentation concerning the various years and versions of the desktop version to confirm which will successfully convert the old Quickbooks Premier 2012 files.  Can anyone assist in letting me know how to do this.

I don’t care which new version of the QB desktop I get.

If I get versions 2022 up to 2024 (Windows 11), am I able to do the data upgrades on the new Windows 11 version?

Or, do I need to get the 2015, 2018, 2021 versions (Windows 10) to do this progressive upgrade?

Any advice is appreciated.

You should contact @Fiat Lux - ASIA for assistance. They can provide an old QB Desktop with a non subscription license (2016 or later) to upgrade your data. They can also help to upgrade your file if required.

Yes, you're able to do the data upgrades on the new Windows 11 using QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise 2022 up to 2024 versions, @DavidCH1. However, some features and data might be lost due to the edition intervals since QuickBooks no longer offers older programs to download.

Please know that the newer versions of QuickBooks Desktop Enterprise are subscription-based plans. Thus, purchasing a non-subscription version is no longer available. However, I recommend contacting our QuickBooks Sales team for other options.

Once you've purchased the latest version, you can move your QuickBooks Desktop 2012 company file by restoring a backup.

First, you'll need to create a backup of your QuickBooks Desktop 2012 company file. Here's how
:

  1. Open QuickBooks Pro 2012.
  2. On the top menu, select File and hover over Back Up Company.
  3. Select Create Local Backup.
  4. Choose the Local Backup option and click OK.

Once you've secured your files, transfer them to your new computer, either by using a USB flash drive or by uploading them to cloud-based storage, and then downloading them to your new machine.

After installing the latest version of QuickBooks Desktop on your new PC, restore the backup files from your local storage and open them using QuickBooks Desktop.

Here's how:

  1. Go to the File menu in QuickBooks and select Open or Restore Company.
  2. Select Restore a backup copy and then Next.
  3. Select Local Backup and then Next.
  4. Browse your computer for your backup company file. It should look like this: [Your company name].qbb.
  5. Select a folder to decide where to save your restored company file. Then select Open.
  6. Select Save.

Find out what’s new in QuickBooks Desktop 2024 and see how these updates can help your business. This latest version offers tools that simplify your accounting, improve management, and increase efficiency.
