QB 2020 Crashing

Just upgraded 2013 to 2020. Unfortunately, after installing an update, QB 2020 crashes before it opens. I get a large green circle, then it tries to open a company file, then just disappears. I've reinstalled the program, and it worked one time, but then it repeats the crashing.

Which edition do you have? Pro or Premier?

Welcome and thanks for posting in the Community, @Promos.

Did you get any error messages? These are the possible reasons why QuickBooks Desktop (QBDT) crashes:

  • The company name may be too long.
  • A damaged or missing QBWUSER.INI file.
  • A corrupt hard drive.
  • The program files or QuickBooks Desktop installation may be damaged.
  • A damaged Windows operating system.

To fix this, let's run the Quick Fix my Program from the QuickBooks Tool Hub. Here's how:

  1. Close QBDT, then download the QuickBooks Tool Hub file.
  2. Once done, open the file (QuickBooksToolHub.exe) and follow the on-screen instruction to install.
  3. After that, double-click the icon on your Windows desktop to open the tool hub.
  4. Select the Program Problems, then Quick Fix my Program.
  5. Reopen QBDT.

I am having the same problem.  no error messages; just green circle followed by crash.  I've tried every fix available, including multiple clean installs.  no luck.  I've used quickbooks without problems since 2004.  support is closed till monday.  Any other ideas?

I appreciate the workaround you've found, JBM50.

This can help other users who have been having the same issues.

Concerning the cause of this issue, you might also be correct that this may be caused by the incompatibility of the pre-installed anti-virus with other software.

If you have any other concerns, please post them anytime here.

I have been having the same problem. Disabling Malwarebytes allowed the program to finish startup. Re-enabling crashed it (MB4.1.2)  Excluding the entire Intuit Folder seemed to end the problem. Surprisingly, two other clients with identical MB work without any crashes? It may be an update in one client, not in the others causing the issue.

After a month of having disappearing data issues, we updated to Enterprise 21 and after working in it ALL DAY I can't open the file...because it won't open, I can't get to tech support.  Is there another way?

I'm here to help ensure you're able to open your company file, amykanimal.

Let's figure out if your company file or QuickBooks program itself is causing the issue.

  1. Open the Windows Start menu.
  2. Type “File Explorer” into the search and open File Explorer.
  3. Search for and find the QuickBooks.exe file. It’s usually in your QuickBooks folder.
  4. Hold down CTRL on your keyboard and double-click QuickBooks.exe. Don’t let go of CTRL until QuickBooks opens.

After QuickBooks opens, open your company file. If you can't, try a second test. Open QuickBooks but don't open your company file. Instead, select Open a sample file.

If QuickBooks or the sample file don't open, or you see an error, the program is causing the issue. It's probably not your company file. Here's how to fix QuickBooks if it doesn’t open.

Also, you need to check if your computer meets the system requirements needed to run QuickBooks Desktop 2021. This is to know ensure compatibility with the program.

If the same issue persists, you can message our Support Team outside of QuickBooks.

Let me know how the chat goes by commenting below. I'll be around until you're able to open your company file.

This is so wrong. Why is this not being fixed. And why did I get something today saying you are no longer going to support us after April?
