Hey there, @Katherine3.

I'd be happy to assists you with getting your 10 digit pin so you can report your employees' wages.

Are you referring to the 10 digit pin used for E-Filing? If so, Once your enrollment for E-file services is approved, IRS will provide you a 10-digit PIN that you need to enter every time you e-file Federal Forms in QuickBooks Desktop. If you haven't received the PIN, I'd suggest contacting IRS E-file services at 866.255.0654 to request the status of your application.

To learn more about the E-file process in QuickBooks, please check out this article:

If you need further assistance with the E-file process, you may reach out to our Customer Care Team. They have the necessary tools to help you through the process.

Keep me posted if you have any other question with QuickBooks. I'm always here to help. Thanks for coming and have a good one.

    Hi jcberg,

Thanks for getting back to us.

Let's make sure to change the filing method of your Federal Forms to e-file. Let me walk you through the process.

    1. Click Employees on the upper-menu.
    2. Select Payroll Center.
    3. Open the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup.
    4. In the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup, click Continue.
    5. Select Federal Form 940 from the list of forms and click Edit.
    6. In the Filing Method options, select E-file and click Finish.
    7. Check if the filing method of your Federal Form 940, 941 and 944 is already E-File and click Continue. The e-File Enrollment window will open and will walk you through the enrollment process.

Then, enroll in the IRS e-flile program.

    1. Review the instructions on the e-file enrollment panel and then click Next.
    2. Verify your EIN and enter your company's legal name and address, and then click Next.
    3. Enter the name, job title, email address, and phone number of the person the IRS can contact about your enrollment and your payroll tax forms. Click Next.
    4. Review the information in the summary window. If you need to modify the information, click Previous and make any necessary changes.
    5. Click Send Information. After you send the information, click Next.
    6. You will be back to the QuickBooks Desktop Payroll Setup. At the lower left of the window, click Finish.

Once done, IRS will verify that your EIN, legal name, and the officer or employee of the company's contact information match their record.

The agency will send the 10-digit PIN to your company legal address if all the information matches your record. It may take up to 45 days to receive your PIN. However, if your enrollment isn't accepted, you'll be notified via mail on how to correct the enrollment.

Please check out this article for visual steps and more information about the enrollment process: Set Up Your Federal Forms 940, 941 and 944 For E-file in QuickBooks Desktop.

You can always get back to us if you have another question. We're just one post away if you need help.

I’m here to help you, @Abundantgrace.

Let me share information with you concerning resetting the E-file 10 digit PIN for payroll.

Since IRS provides the PIN, you’ll want to reach out to them for a PIN reset. Within 7 and 10 banking days, you’ll receive a letter from them about your request.

    Here’s how:

    1. Contact 866.255.0654.
    2. Choose option 1 and then 3 for E-file questions.
    3. When you get an IRS agent, ask for the E-file 10-digit PIN.

I have resources here that help guide you when enrolling and filing federal and state payroll taxes successfully in QuickBooks. Visit them each for further information:

I updated my payroll as usual and now the 10 digit pin for e-filing is missing and I do not remember it.  What can I do?
