How to fix common QuickBooks Online login problems

We know how frustrating it can be when you can’t log in, especially when you have invoices to send or deadlines approaching.

Most QuickBooks Online login problems are caused by outdated browser data, and the fastest fix is to open a private or incognito window and sign in. If the private or incognito window resolves the problem, then clearing your browser’s cache and cookies should get you back up and running in a regular window. When a private window doesn't help, switching browsers, pausing extensions, and checking status.intuit.com resolves the large majority of remaining cases, while adjusting your security settings stops repeat sign-in prompts. Following the one-minute reset below gets most people back into their books in under five minutes, with no need to contact support.

This guide covers the most common QuickBooks Online login issues, why each one happens, and how to fix it. The sections follow the order you'll usually run into them: getting in, staying in, and getting back in if you've lost access.

How do I fix most QuickBooks Online login issues? (the one-minute reset)

Quick answer: Open a private or incognito window and sign in. If that works, clear your browser's cache and cookies. If not, try another browser, pause extensions, and check status.intuit.com.

These five quick steps clear up the majority of login problems. Try them in order, and there's a good chance you won't need to read any further.

  1. Open a private or incognito window and try signing in. In Chrome, press Ctrl+Shift+N (Cmd+Shift+N on Mac). In Firefox or Edge, press Ctrl+Shift+P. If it works here, the fix is refreshing your normal browser's stored data.
  2. Try a different browser. Chrome, Firefox, Edge, and Safari each store their own data, so if one is being stubborn, another often works right away.
  3. Pause any browser extensions, especially ad blockers like uBlock Origin and privacy tools that block cookies. Turning them off for a moment is an easy thing to rule out.
  4. Clear your browser's cache and cookies. Only do this after trying the other first steps first. This gives your session a clean slate. You'll be signed out and asked for a security code next time you log in, so keep your phone or authenticator app handy.
  5. Check status.intuit.com. This tells you whether it's a wider issue on our side. If something's listed there, it's not your setup, and we're already on it.

Still stuck? No problem. Find the section below that matches what you're experiencing.

Blank Screen After Signing In

You've entered your credentials, passed two-step verification, and then, nothing. Just a blank page where your dashboard should be.

This almost always comes down to browser cache or extension conflicts. Here's what to try:

  1. Clear all cache and cookies for your browser, then try signing in again.
  2. Disable browser extensions one at a time. Ad blockers are a frequent culprit.
  3. Try a different browser entirely.
  4. If you have multiple QBO tabs open, close all but one and try again.

If the blank screen persists across every browser, try connecting from a different network. Network-level interference can occasionally block QuickBooks Online's cloud endpoints.

Sign-In Loop: Credentials Accepted but Sent Back to the Sign-In Screen

You enter your email, password, and verification code, and QuickBooks Online sends you right back to the sign-in screen as if nothing happened. This is a session cookie issue. QuickBooks accepted your credentials but couldn't maintain the authenticated session across the redirect.

  1. Clear all cookies for your browser (not just cache).
  2. Try signing in from a private or incognito window.
  3. Switch to a different browser.
  4. Try from a different device or network.

If your whole team hits this at once, it may be a platform-side session issue. Waiting a short while has resolved it for many users without any further action needed.

Spinning Wheel / Infinite Loading

The QBO sign-in screen or dashboard loads but never finishes, just a spinning green circle that goes on indefinitely.

  1. Clear browser cache and cookies.
  2. Switch to a different browser. This issue is known to be browser-specific in some cases.
  3. Disable browser extensions, particularly any that block scripts or cookies.
  4. Check status.quickbooks.intuit.com

Verification Code Requested on Every Sign-In

If QuickBooks asks for a verification code every single time you sign in, even from your usual device, your session cookies are likely being cleared between sign-ins, or your IP address is changing often enough that QBO can't recognise your device.

A few things that help:

  • Extend your sign-out timer. Go to Gear → Account and settings → Advanced → Other preferences and set the inactivity sign-out to 3 hours. This keeps your session active longer between sign-ins.
  • Switch to an authenticator app. If you're using text message codes, switching to Google Authenticator or Authy is faster and more reliable.
  • Ask your ISP about a static IP. If your IP address changes frequently, QBO treats each sign-in as a new device. A static IP solves this.
  • Avoid incognito windows for everyday use. Every private window is treated as a brand-new device and will always trigger the verification step.

Tip: Admins can't currently enforce two-step verification enrolment across all users on a QuickBooks account. If you're managing a team, the best workaround is to share these settings with each user directly.

Password Reset Failures

If clicking "Forgot your password?" returns an error, or the reset just doesn't seem to work, start here:

  1. Check your spam folder immediately after requesting a reset link. These emails frequently land in junk, and the link expires quickly.
  2. Check your details at accounts.intuit.com before retrying. The reset flow needs your information to match exactly what's on file — even minor discrepancies cause it to fail.
  3. If the reset flow itself looks broken (not just slow), contact QuickBooks support directly so they can look into account recovery.

"Sign in with Google" No Longer Works

Intuit discontinued Google Single Sign-On in October 2023. If you've been signing in via "Sign in with Google" and can no longer get in, this is why. The fix is a one-time move to a standalone Intuit account password.

  1. Go to accounts.intuit.com.
  2. Use "Forgot password?" to set a new password tied to your email address.
  3. From then on, sign in directly with your email and new password.

Google SSO is fully retired and won't be coming back, but the switch only takes a few minutes.

Can't Get Help Because You Can't Sign In?

Here's a frustrating catch a lot of users run into: QuickBooks' in-product help requires you to be signed in to use it. When the problem is that you can't sign in, that path is unavailable.

Your options:

  • Use the QBO Test Drive at qbo.intuit.com/redir/testdrive_uk as a back door into the Help menu — no sign-in required.
  • Head to the Get help signing in article, which walks through account recovery options step by step.
  • If you need a real person, our UK-based support team is reachable via callback or live chat once you're on the Contact QuickBooks page — you don't need to be signed in to request one. Phone support runs Monday to Friday, 8am–7pm; live messaging runs Monday to Friday 8am–10pm and weekends 8am–6pm.

Tip: Bookmark status.quickbooks.intuit.com and the Contact QuickBooks page now, before you need them.

You've got this!

Most QBO sign-in issues come down to a handful of browser or session conflicts that are quick to clear up once you know what to look for. Running through the checklist at the top of this guide before diving into a specific issue will save you time in almost every case. As always, we're here to help you stay on track.
