Question

Anyone else suddenly lost Tags feature?

As of yesterday 7/24/2026, I have suddenly lost the ability to tag transactions. The tags field has disappeared from expenses and invoices and Tags is no longer listed under Lists. Per QBO articles, the tags feature will be ended in 2028 since I’ve been active user of it for many years. I use it to pull job specific profit and loss reports (which custom fields sadly lacks). It’s almost as if someone behind the scenes just turned the feature off for my account. I contacted support yesterday and after a massive long waste of time, I was basically told that since no one else has reported this problem, they won’t investigate it. What? Great customer service. Anyone else experience this sudden loss of the tags feature??

@ahance33

Having the Tags feature suddenly disappear from your forms and lists breaks a vital workflow, especially when you rely on it to track your job-specific reporting.

We've passed your situation directly to our Next Level Help team. An expert will carefully review your Community comments and support history to get a complete, end-to-end look at what's happening with the Tags feature on your account. You can expect to hear from them within 1–2 business days regarding the next steps.

I can no longer view my tags from last year. I can still tag with no problem.

But now I cannot view them, and it makes no sense to tag anymore.

You can access your tag history from last year by running a tag report with the Report period set to Last Year or by viewing your main Tags list.

To clarify, are the tags missing from your main list, or are you looking for them in a specific report?

If the Tags page fails to load, try opening your account in an incognito or private browser window to bypass any cache issues. Then, check your tags by clicking directly on this link: https://qbo.intuit.com/app/tags.

You can also find last year's tagged transactions by running a report. Here’s how:

  1. Go to Reports, then select Standard reports.
  2. Use the search field to find and open the Profit and Loss by Tag Group report.
  3. Set the Report period to Last Year.

To update this issue: Louise from QBO Cares reached out and created an investigation into the tags disappearing. She recorded video of my screen showing Tags not available in All Lists as well as showing that there were no tags created using https://qbo.intuit.com/app/tags. However, in my P/L by tags report, it clearly shows all my tags. I had hoped the investigation would work but unfortunately received this email:

We’re reaching out to you about a recent issue you had with Not able to access Tags list

We reviewed your case (), and found that QuickBooks Online is working as designed. clea

However, it is not fixed. I reset my computer. Used both Safari and Chrome… deleted browsing history, cleared cache, removed website data, closed and reopened the browsers. And still no tags. Please can someone from QBO fix this?

I completely understand how frustrating this is after all the troubleshooting you've done. I know how important your tags are for your workflow, and I'm here to help sort this out.

To clarify, this is not a bug. As mentioned in the email you received, the Tags management option under Settings is being removed for accounts that have been updated to the new experience. Browser troubleshooting has not resolved it because this is a platform-level change, not a browser or device issue.

To track and report on your expenses going forward, you will now use Custom Fields instead of tags. Custom fields have been expanded to support both sales and expense forms across all standard QuickBooks Online plans.

  1. Go to the Gear icon and select Custom fields.
  2. Select Add field. If this is your first time creating a custom field, select Add custom field.
  3. Enter a name in the Name field.
  4. Select the Data type ▼ dropdown for the type of custom field.
  5. Select the category, whether it's CustomerTransactionVendor, or Project.
  6. In the selection forms, please check the box next to the form(s) where you want the custom field to be applied.
  7. (Optional) To show the custom field on printed and delivered forms, toggle on Print on form. Otherwise, it'll only appear in QuickBooks Online.
  8. Select Save.

Tags were removed from user accounts that never used the Tags feature as of May 2025. For legacy users that have been using tags in their account, they were grandfathered in to be able to have full tag use until 2028. This was an announcement made by Quickbooks. Search it up. They switched off my access before 2028 obviously without warning causing issues. Custom fields does NOT have the same capability as tags.
