Remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online

by Intuit•90• Updated 4 days ago

Learn how to undo or remove transactions from reconciliations in QuickBooks Online.

If your account statement and QuickBooks transactions are different after an account reconciliation, you can remove individual transactions from it.

Important: This only lets you remove one transaction at a time, not the entire reconciliation. If you want to undo an entire reconciliation, talk to your accountant. The "In house accountant" role can undo entire reconciliations.

Reasons to remove transactions from reconciliations

  • You reconciled a duplicate expense.
  • You sorted a transaction into the wrong category.
  • You reconciled a transaction in the wrong account.

Requirements

  • Make sure your opening, beginning, and ending balances are correct. You may want to talk to your accountant first.
  • Only remove transactions if you’re sure it’s why an account balance is wrong. You could have reconciled it by mistake, or it might be an error you need to delete.

Remove a transaction from a reconciliation

  1. Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., select Accounting, then select Chart of accounts (Take me there)..
  2. Find the account with the transaction and select Account history.
  3. Select the transaction.
Note: If it’s reconciled, you’ll see an “R” in the checkmark ✔ column.
  4. Select the transaction.
  5. Select the box with the “R” to remove it.
  6. Select Save.
  7. Select Yes to confirm.

Now that you’ve removed the transaction, reconcile the account again correctly.

Go to All apps A bunch of numbers and letters on a tile wall., select Accounting, then select Reconcile (Take me there).
