QuickBooks is incorrectly categorising transactions and also failing to acknowledge any amendments made. Anyone any ideas on how to resolve?

For example when a rule is set up, it will then change to the category to a different account. If I amend things which QB incorrectly categorises as expenses ( which I have had no trouble with amending in the past) they will just remain as expenses which throws everything off.
